I so enjoyed watching this and learning about the history , culture , and the wonderful people of Russia. The artisans etc were so proud of what they do. I really liked the chocolatier . I used to work at a Bask n Robbins and I lost my desire of ice cream!

I’ve been there, back when relations between Russia and the USA were relatively good. What a shame that they have soured so badly in the last quarter century.

Holidays are a favorite. I love various time pieces including clocks and watches as well as collecting musical/whimsical like objects. Much to see in Russia. Very open and airy.

Personal opinion only and I have been to most of the other main Euro cities , Peter is very impressive , very friendly and extremely good value , best public transport system , endless amount of attractions and culture and very friendly locals , would be my first choice to live of any place in europe

1. Russia had way fewer "tyrants and dictators" than Germany, France and other Western countries.
2. there was no "communism" in Russia (only socialism), and it has left the treasures of SPbs kept very well, not "scarred".
3. religion was fine in the times of the USSR, over three thousand churches (let alone mosques) were active by 1990. The only major difference was made by the government is that there was no tax heaven for religious organizations meaning that most churches have ceased to be profitable and were quickly abandoned and repurposed by the government (otherwise, they would just fall apart without care).
4. the 1941-1944 blockade/siege was carried out not by just Germans but also by Finns.

Something struck me in recent days. The British flag is red, white and blue as is Russia's, the USA, Australia, New Zealand. We really shouldn't fight, you know.

Peter is representative of the real and authentic Europe what is progressively disappearing elsewhere alas ( Brussels, Paris...). I go regularly to Peter to find the old European spirit there : Russia will save Europe .
