There were also caravanserais up in Nepal’s Himalayas, one I encountered at the foot of Thorung La, their highest mountain pass.

There were/are caravanserai on the Annapurna Circuit. They were/are a square structure with an inner courtyard. Between the outer wall and inner wall of the courtyard it formed a square corridor that was a resting place and thoroughfare for travelllers where trade continued.

Beautiful story. On a trip in Turkey in 2011, my group visited a caravansari. This story brings back those memories clearly! I learned so much from the narration (obviously, I did not fall asleep - i was working on a project.) I’m going to re-listen while going to bed. Thank you!
