Wonderful review! And you made me put "Bad Times At The El Royale" on my to-watch list :)

The description sounds like a mix of Sadie and the movie 'The Sacrament', definitely intriguing! Last year read Sadie as an audiobook and thought it was a fun time, so this one is on my list.

Great review.:) I gave this book three stars too. I do have to say though (and this sort of goes along with your opinion about people who don’t think they’re vulnerable to cults/group think being indoctrinated the most easily) that I disagreed with what Courtney Summers said the main point of the book was, which is to show that anybody could fall into the trappings of a cult if it were the right circumstance. I get where she’s coming from, and I did like that she showed how decent people could be sucked into something so horrific if the cult leader reaffirms their own morality (like how most of the people were very liberal in the novel and Lev kind of used that to draw them in by criticizing Trump during his presidency) but I can’t help but think that If you have a strong sense of self and a strong belief system, it’s possible to be the type of person that would never get subsumed by a cult. I feel like people who get preyed on by cult leaders are vulnerable and need guidance. That’s why it’s so easy to take advantage of them. Predators usually only go after people like that. So I just don’t agree with her point- that it could happen to anybody, even if it is a compelling argument.

Have added Bad Times at the El Royale to my TBW, which is as ridiculously long as my TBR!! 🤣🤗

Agree with your review of the book. I didn’t not enjoy it as much as I did with Sadie. That one blew my mind!

I felt the same way about Lev and how that climax just left us hanging with absolutely no payoff. What an odd choice. I almost would have preferred that being the end of the book rather than cutting it off qt the climax and flashing back then forward.

I rarely get ARCs so I was sad when I got this one and was disappointed.. I liked Bea's chapters better but definitely fall into the "wtf Lo" camp. I also was immediately hooked by the prologue and ended up staying for Bea's povs! Lev's straight creepy.

A really good cult book is "The Bees" by Laline Paull. And yes this book is about a beehive.

Bad Times at the El Royals is one of my all time favorite movies...when I watched it the first time, I then watched it the second time, the day after the first time.❤️

I haven't watched it yet, but I have heard the Vow really glossed over some of the stuff from NXIVM. Have you watched the one that was on Starz called Seduced? People seem to prefer that one. I plan to watch both and see.

Wait, am I the only one who pronounced Bea as "Bee-ah"? Was shocked to hear you call her "Bee", haha!

Great review as always! Will read it! And hey, I read The Other by Thomas Tryon recently and fell in love with it. It is very atmospheric, similar to The Elementals, which I know you loved. I hope you read this book and make a video on it. Would love to you hear your thoughts!

I read a comic about cults and it turned out to be psychological horror and mystery. It freaked me out so much that I forgot the name of the comic.😂😂
