(Update) disappointed with the hardware from tnutz I thought it would be more weather resistant but they already have surface rust on some of them and it hasn’t even rained. I’ll either have to paint them or look into getting some black anodized stainless hardware if that’s even a thing. Suggestions welcomed.
Also..
I didn’t show this well but there is 3m double sided mounting tape under the front brackets to protect the paint and prevent movement. Just so you know 👍. Y’all are awesome! So glad y’all are enjoying this build! 🙏🙏
Some very clever ideas in this video! Bravo!
ОтветитьThat thing looks incredible. Nice job.
ОтветитьI guess the extrusion will hold water with no where to go?
Ответитьnice! well done, sir.
ОтветитьWhat was the length of your crossbars for that build?
Ответитьhermoso trabajo, felicidades.
ОтветитьThis is an awesome project but my ocd or whatever can't get over you calling it exCRUsion instead of exTRUsion lmao. Really is an awesome video though keep up the good work!
ОтветитьI want this rack!!! Ever think about making one of these for someone else's vehicle?
ОтветитьLooks amazing, I'm wanting to do the same thing myself. One thing I'm wondering is how strong the cross rails are? To me it seems that only having two screws on either end is a big failure point and much weaker than the rest of the rack. How have you found it? Also, where did you get the rubber that you used to pad the roof from the feet and also the wind fairing?
ОтветитьGreat video brother loved it. Unfortunately your wall mounted flag is hung backwards. The canton (star field) is always to the observer’s left. Your’s is on the right.
ОтветитьWow, genius. Congratulations.
ОтветитьWhat was the final width of those Aluminum Extrusion?
ОтветитьThere are so many really, really good Pointers and Constructing Details in this video and also your videos on 270-degree Awnings, especially the "Best DYI Awning" one.
I'm going 'On the Road' in mid-2024 with my SUV to tour US Rout-One from Maine to Key West, the Gulf Coast, and the Rockies. I'll be doing a Travel-Log series for U-Toob focusing on historic locations. I'm thinking 12 to 18 months.
I'll construct your Awning this winter (2023) and your Roof-Rack and Ladder next spring.
My Build-Out will be via 2" Corning Ridged Insulation Foam as seen on N0MAD's U-Toob channel.
You, and a handful of other presenters, provide a massive wealth of knowledge to us, the community of DYIers.
Thanks so very much for your videos. They're worth MUCHO-ALLOT...........
Sooooo niiice!
ОтветитьBecause you didn't put any rubber back. Under those for a while, did your whole start leaking?
ОтветитьThose brackets you built to attach the rack to the roof don't really seem like a great solution. Tons of extra weight, a lot of work and I'm not sure why it would matter if you had to put cross braces where the factory holes were.
ОтветитьExcellent build…but I have to say one thing. “Extrusion”
ОтветитьJust now starting this project on my suburban now!!!! 120" long it's going to be amazing!
ОтветитьI don’t own a Toyota but great for any vehicle rack! The cardboard-sticks is brilliant.
ОтветитьMan thanks thanks thanks 😅
ОтветитьI'm impressed awesome build
ОтветитьWow dude good job this came out. Awesome!
ОтветитьFantastic work
Ответитьwish I had half of your skills.
ОтветитьAwesome job, definitely inspiration for my next rack
Ответитьnice work man 👍
ОтветитьQue exelente 🎉🎉🎉
ОтветитьMasterpiece bro cheers from tampa
ОтветитьOk I know this is a year later but I’d like to know what was your time investment, if it took two weeks then I’m gonna get a used rack and roll on. I was with you every step.
ОтветитьDid an exact build for my 5th gen turned out better than expect at a fraction of the price compared to prinsu. What size steel did you use for the wind deflector? That's all I'm missing and it'll be complete
ОтветитьNoisy?
ОтветитьAt first I was like, that’s way too much work. But then when he finished, I was look 👀 niiiiice!! 😂 work of art brother. Great job.
ОтветитьThe corrugated cardboard and the skewers gauge is BRILLIANT!
ОтветитьThis guy gets shit done, man, good work dude.
ОтветитьWhat an awesome build!! The homemade contour gauge is absolutely brilliant! Is the original Prinsu rack made from steel? I was planning to build one like this for my van, but from 3/16 aluminum. Thanks for sharing this amazing and comprehensive build💪🏻👍🏻
ОтветитьNice build. I have 2002 4runner. Just wondering would you build another one sell to me since you already have all the templates.
ОтветитьDanggg, this is an awesome build. Nice skills and work. Just wish I had you as my neighbor to design and build couple good things. Again great work 💪🏽💪🏽
ОтветитьShare cost of materials?
ОтветитьThat's veery good! thank you!))
ОтветитьHow much for a built bro? Wk2
ОтветитьAWESOME job bro!!!🔥🔥 how many man hrs did u put into this thing?
ОтветитьPatrick- awesome build & Great video!
You have inspired me to give it a shot...
Been thinking of lengthening factory rack for a while - this would definitely look much cleaner!
I am a fair bit behind you on the fabrication & welding curve (still getting good with MIG but did complete a cut to weld bumper)
Few questions if I may:
Know you knocked the tnutz bolts - if you had it to do over again would you still use their rails?
How is wind noise? The slots on rails seems like it would cause some as well as gussets on mounting tabs.
Anything else you would do different if doing it again?
Tnutz all in cart & ready to order - should have my 3/16 soon as I can get to the yard
Thanks
I'm a DIY guy, but this looks DI-WOW!!! Great job
ОтветитьSo, I have been looking at building my rack as well, couple of things. Prinsu uses 1/4 aluminum for their frame depending on how many cross bars depends on how much weight it can hold. since your using steel, you could have gone with less gauge. but the issue with steel is it is more prone to rusting. I did see a rack that was interesting is that it was a basic frame, with thinner gauge to give it the arrow design look. another thing to remember is weight. to your comment I would look around and go stainless. but if you go with the idea, I have which is aluminum you don't have to weld just bolt everything together. then paint or powder coat.
ОтветитьThat turned out really nice!
Ответитьhow much would you charge me to make one for me? 4th Gen.
ОтветитьAwesome 😍
