The mother asked her what she was going to do with herself, when she should’ve been asking her other two daughters, who refuse to do anything with their lives.

That grandmother is a hero. She checked her grown daughter for trying to hold her own young daughter back. She wanted the best for her.

I believe Michael Jackson was inspired by this movie a little. He was honest about growing up with toxic parents and toxic siblings. He said they used to tease his good looks and his father used to beat on him, whilst his mother never stopped the beatings. He also never had a child hood because he had to work since a child, but when he became a huge star, he left home and built never land.

The way those jealous sisters and that girls mother kept yelling at her and blaming her for everything was disgusting. No wonder she left and never looked back.

I love when she left her toxic family alone and chased her dreams. There is hope out there.

I wonder if Michael Jackson got the name Billie Jean from seeing this movie.

The interaction between the mother and father felt fast, 2 grown people revisiting a place they used to visit, and talking about their past while talking about their present. I like this movie, it feels so character-driven and that’s what I like with movies.

Sexual objectification is what's horridly normalized of the black woman for millennia and hasn't abated....Ozzie Davis is just the panderer of it. 💀

I love the 1970 movies . It makes me think about the goods . If you seeing this just know you made thankful at 49 born in 1974 my granny died at 44 in 1980 . This was the times when people had love and respect for one another . Loyalty was really shown . Family was family and you had real friends

Poor Billie, just trying to dance the pain away & her family won’t even allow her that. Discouraging her dreams in every way & they wonder why she dropped out of school… to think she got that job to buy something for her sour face mother. There’s a Billie in every family & I can’t wait to change my name..
