This is really intense for me to watch.
My grandmother became a Jehovah's witness when my mother was about about 14 years, she's in the middle of six kids. It was detrimental to my family without a doubt, however I know that my grandmother would have died (killed herself)without finding God in her religion. I grew up in the 1 ft and 1 ft out of the JW organization and oddly enough I can say that I did gain a lot from it but just like the young man said in this I don't know if I wouldn't have got it from some other inspiration. That being said as close as I was to my grandma for all the pain and divisiveness and most of all separation it has caused in my family my grandmother did benefit from her religion. And my point in the spiel is to say that what this woman ( the mother) needs to admit is that while she benefited it from her experience with her religion it was at the expense of everybody else.

I like how he phrased that he vould have gained the ssme things from other experiences. She's the only one in the room who believes it was good tells you something.

I've never been a scientologist but I am a "Trouble Maker", I did everything I could to get help from dozens of baptist churches for 30 years from my toxic narcissistic marriage, only one church would hear me out. When I filed for divorce three-years ago with a Christian lawyer, this lawyer started working behind the scenes with my husband and slowing down the divorce proceedings were I just wanted 50%. I gave the lawyer audio recordings of verbal abuse. She did recommend I get a restraining order in which she represented me in court and I was able to get. This set off a revenge campaign where my ex had everyone I ever knew disconnect from me exactly like scientology, including my adult children.

These people have been involved in gang-stalking me in hopes of making me go crazy and locking me away in jail or a mental institution. My mother was the first person to turn against me and support my abuser. God has not left me, I left organized religion. There isn't one person who has come up against me who I couldn't debate with about the Bible. My husband is a Bible College graduate and I sat in on the classes. I am fighting for my life. My ex will not let me move on, he has separated me from the only person in the world that cares enough to help me by lies. People believe I deserve this treatment because he then started a smear campaign telling people I am on drugs, and promiscuous while I was faithful and never stepped out. He immediately moved on with someone he has known for years while he carries out court cases against me trying to prove I'm unfit and paying people who are in my vicinity including neighbors to find incriminating evidence against me. In almost three-years, they have found nothing. I'm also a fighter and I will never shut up. Your book brings me hope. Thank you for your work. Like you said in your book my entire world has changed, I'm free in my mentality even if I'm not free from my abuser. I haven't spoken directly to him or have thought of him in any other light than as an abuser in years. It took me years to get out leaving everything behind I ever had. I have our youngest children and he uses them as an excuse to stay in my life and keep tabs on me through the courts. Like you i would have just loved to move on with my life but this toxicity chose me, I finally got the courage to speak up. I have not left to lose except my youngest child which he's try to take away.

Leah and Mike I love your show. I'm fascinated but it all. But please stop say " no Religion/ Church would do this" because all religions have and are taking everyone for a ride. Children get abused, money is taken, women treated badly.
Tell me if im wrong - but I don't know of a single religion that doesn't do all or some of that!.

My my my!!! I am too old to just now have realized this. First of all, kudos to this daughter for being true to herself and to the man brave enough to admit he was taken. I actually studied Cults in college - not extensively it was in my sociology minor and I never grasped fully what I wanted to understand - which is, why? I know why people start Cults they're evil and they have some kind of innate need to rule over and take advantage of people. I'm talking about the people who actually join and STAY, the staying portion. If it all comes down to, they don't want to admit that they got taken - If them not leaving comes down to a matter of pride I'm shaken to the core I feel very sad and depressed now that this is how humans react. Be embarrassed, admit it, get out of it. Pride should be the most deadly sin. How can any of us learn anything if we don't admit we've made we made wrong choices, we are embarrassed, we are ashamed? I am sorrowful for people who cannot admit to feeling horrible about something they did because we will never learn to be a better person without feeling these uncomfortable feelings. Maybe too many people are not long-term thinkers. They can't see how this might effect their future, their CHILDREN's future. They are too proud to say, 'I woke up & got out of it, made a life for myself after this debacle.' F pride! No one will ever be able to take care of you like you take care of you. If you are a single person on your own that is 1 thing, don't take children down with you don't take your spouse down with you. You are responsible for you. I am reminded of a petty situation of people thinking that others a responsible for them. I was driving through a parking lot and I came across the crosswalk I pulled up and I stopped because I saw people that were coming out of the store and from the other side of the parking lot. This woman walks up on my car as if she's trying to bump into me and gives me some kind of look. You $tupid B, I'm not responsible for you. I stopped for the people that were there when I pulled up, I did my part correctly. If you "think" I didn't do it correctly Then mind yourself take care of yourself with seriously if you think that I was being responsible get yourself out of danger. I don't need to pull to any parking lot and think to myself I need to wait till every human being gets out of their vehicle because they just may cross this crosswalk.
