May be a stupid question, but... could they not have removed the filter from the square and put it in t cylinder ? Just curious.

This is one of those great films where the enemy is death and the every character is doing their best to work together to beat it.

"Tell me this isn't a government operation" - Ok, sure, goverment operations can have problems, but privatising it doesn't inherently fix those problems especially if profit margin is the main goal.

"People upstairs have handed us this one, and we gotta come through." I wonder how many people they auditioned for this one. I wonder many times this guy had to read for it. Regardless, he killed it with his 15 seconds.

Cool scene, but actually false. This possibility had been foreseen and the procedure for this was already written out.

Duct tape is Kentucky chrome!!! (car repair) I keep 3 inch gorilla tape in my first aid box. Knife, gunshot, etc severe bleeding, you gotta chance.

And of course you need some coffee 🫡

As Clint Eastwood once said, you can solve any problem with a can of WD40 and a roll of duct tape.

MacGyver and duct tape would have had this solved in 30 seconds.

I have to know how many cups of coffee and packs of cigarettes these men went through during that crisis.

Kind of badass how they knew what material they had up there and then set up a work station to try and accomplish what is quite literally an impossible task so that they can save lives.

The neat thing about this is NASA already had this figured out beforehand. They just had pull out the cookbook and read the recipe to them over the radio.

It’s amazing how the scientists at NASA were able to figure this out.

Love this scene. Accurately depicts the highs and lows of engineering. No coordination in the design phase, but exceptional skills at problem solving.

Gotta love how they're worried about breathing and Kranz takes a big draw on his cigarette!

If you're an engineer, you have to love this scene. My favorite definition of an engineer is "problem solver".

It's dramatized of course. But it seems to me that the Gene Kranz character (in real life) might ask his team, "Do you really need my permission to solve this problem?"

Making THIS fit into the hole for THIS was not the amazing part….
It was the “using nothing but THAT” that really showed the genius of the people that worked on that project. The limitations were enormous and they were overcome.
