May be a stupid question, but... could they not have removed the filter from the square and put it in t cylinder ? Just curious.
ОтветитьI wonder how many lives have been saved by what I used to call duck tape 😂
Ответитьthis scene perfectly shows what happens when stoners have weed and a lighter, but no pipe.
ОтветитьThat's what she said
Ответить“Does anybody know where the square goes? That’s right! The circle hole!”
ОтветитьGov't. planning at it's best..
if Gov't. had to design a horse , it would look like an extinct woolly🦣mammoth...🙄
freaking easy....and they call that a "real" problem? hah!
ОтветитьThis is one of those great films where the enemy is death and the every character is doing their best to work together to beat it.
Ответить"Tell me this isn't a government operation" - Ok, sure, goverment operations can have problems, but privatising it doesn't inherently fix those problems especially if profit margin is the main goal.
Ответить"People upstairs have handed us this one, and we gotta come through." I wonder how many people they auditioned for this one. I wonder many times this guy had to read for it. Regardless, he killed it with his 15 seconds.
ОтветитьCool scene, but actually false. This possibility had been foreseen and the procedure for this was already written out.
ОтветитьNow, see, if it had been a round peg in a square hole, maybe the situation hadn't been so tight
Ответитьduct tape, WD-40, and zipties. the holy trinity of hardware.
ОтветитьLol I'm watching this movir right now, and this video came in my feed
ОтветитьGood movie making, but of course, it didn't happen like that. Houston was working on the CO2 problem from the very beginning. They know their stuff.
ОтветитьCould these clips get any shorter? Don’t show the process or conclusion or anything
ОтветитьCoffee - sure.
More importantly, another carton of cigarettes.
The best scene in the whole movie!!! I'm an engineer, and whenever upper mgmt asks us for something impossible, I play this scene for motivation!
ОтветитьDuct tape is Kentucky chrome!!! (car repair) I keep 3 inch gorilla tape in my first aid box. Knife, gunshot, etc severe bleeding, you gotta chance.
ОтветитьAnd of course you need some coffee 🫡
ОтветитьAs Clint Eastwood once said, you can solve any problem with a can of WD40 and a roll of duct tape.
Ответить"Tell me this isn't a government operation" is a line I have adopted into my everyday work speech. I love this country but our government really does seem to find a way to make everything as unnecessarily complicated as possible.
ОтветитьMacGyver and duct tape would have had this solved in 30 seconds.
ОтветитьEngineers are awesome.
ОтветитьThis spawned the TV (cable) reality show; 'Junkyard Wars' which was one of my favorite shows back in the late 90s early 2000s
ОтветитьCorrections and beyond… breathe.
ОтветитьThis was an actual problem they solved.
ОтветитьIm still confused of how this wasnt seen before launch... o I forgot.. human brains lack 5th dimensional thinking... never mind... but you want to call me trash because I'm a poor class american.. yet having the knowledge of this reality.. whatever.
Ответить"That's right! It goes in the square hole."
ОтветитьApollo 13 proved the age-old fact, "For every problem there is always a solution."
ОтветитьHow many engineers did this movie create.
I wish they showed how they actually did this, even if it was just a simplified version.
Ответитьthis is what we do right now - connecting "five E's lesson plan system" to "8 components of a lesson". Public school teachers' training
ОтветитьIf only it had been the over way round. Its much easier to make a round peg fit into a square hole.
ОтветитьWe gotta find a way to make this fit into the hole for this using nothing but that
ОтветитьThis is a clip I show people when they ask what Engineers really do.
Ответить"Okay let's build a filter!"
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I have to know how many cups of coffee and packs of cigarettes these men went through during that crisis.
ОтветитьKind of badass how they knew what material they had up there and then set up a work station to try and accomplish what is quite literally an impossible task so that they can save lives.
ОтветитьThe neat thing about this is NASA already had this figured out beforehand. They just had pull out the cookbook and read the recipe to them over the radio.
ОтветитьIt’s amazing how the scientists at NASA were able to figure this out.
ОтветитьLove this scene. Accurately depicts the highs and lows of engineering. No coordination in the design phase, but exceptional skills at problem solving.
ОтветитьGotta love how they're worried about breathing and Kranz takes a big draw on his cigarette!
ОтветитьIf you're an engineer, you have to love this scene. My favorite definition of an engineer is "problem solver".
ОтветитьIt's dramatized of course. But it seems to me that the Gene Kranz character (in real life) might ask his team, "Do you really need my permission to solve this problem?"
ОтветитьMaking THIS fit into the hole for THIS was not the amazing part….
It was the “using nothing but THAT” that really showed the genius of the people that worked on that project. The limitations were enormous and they were overcome.
