Timeline:
* 43 BC: The legion is formed by the consul Gaius Vibius Pansa, on the orders of Augustus;
* 30 BC - 6 AD: The legion is located in the province of Macedonia;
* 6-62 AD: The V Macedonica is based at the military base at Oescus in the province of Moesia;
45-46 AD: Legio V Macedonica is sent to suppress the Thracian rebellion;
* 62-71 AD: The legion served in the eastern provinces of Roman Empire;
62-66 AD: Transferred to Pontus to fight against the Parthian Empire;
66 AD: Moved to the Judea;
67 AD: The legion conquered Sepphoris in Galilee and Mount Gerizim;
68-69 AD: The Legion is in camp at Emmaus, near Jerusalem;
70 AD: V Macedonica besieges Jerusalem for four months;
71 AD: V Macedonica returns to its home base in Oescus, Moesia;
* 71-101 AD: The legion is stationed in Oescus, Moesia;
86 AD: Invasion of the Dacians in Moesia (reorganization of the province into Moesia Inferior and Moesia Superior);
88-89 AD: V Macedonica took part in a failed campaign against the Dacians;
101-106 AD: Emperor Trajan's campaign against the Dacians;
* 107-274 AD: The Legion has permanent bases in the newly conquered province of Dacia;
107 AD: V Macedonica is sent to the legionary fortress of Troezmis, near the Danube Delta;
166-274 AD: The Legion is stationed at Potaissa, in the province of Dacia Porolissensis;
185 AD: V Macedonica defeats an army of mercenaries hired by rebellious gold mine workers for this emperor Commodus awarded the legion the honorary title Pia Constans or Pia Fidelis;
244-245 AD: The legion fought several wars against the Dacian Carp tribe and received the title III Pia Fidelis from Emperor Valerian;
260 AD: Gallienus awarded the legion the title VII Pia Fidelis for its support in the fight against the usurpers Ingenuus and Regalianus;
274 AD: V Macedonica leaves Dacia and returns to military base at Oescus 2, Moesia;
* 293 AD: Emperor Diocletian definitively separates the cavalry unit from the legion and sends it to Mesopotamia;
* 411 AD: An invading force of Huns invades Oescus and destroy the military base of the Legio V Macedonica infantry;
* 476 AD: The Legio V Macedonica is transformed into a comitatensis unit and becoming part of the Eastern Roman Empire;
* 476 AD: The V Macedonica is still at Moesia;
* 636 or 637 AD: The Last mention of the V Macedonica, the legion took part in the fortification of Heliopolis, Egypt;
