Apple’s Journal App is (Almost) Perfect

Something I would really like to see is formatting. I do a lot of audio messages and then number them and write about them. But I would love to make some things bold to differentiate thoughts and sub-thoughts.

Agree with you. Also it should also let you choose the songs instead of only being able to use the ones it recommends you. Great review

First of all my condoleances.

I love this app and use it almost every day. I think your suggestions are perfect and I hope they will keep developing this app to make it more complete. I think it would be great if we can keep more journals in the future so I can keep one about my children and one more personal or about fitness goals.

ahhh i too have my moms iphone and i go on it when i miss her. i would love if they implemented these features. i think our parents would have loved this idea for us too 🤎

The absence of an export function is a total deal breaker. What good isvall of Apples privacy focus if they're not letting me own my data?

It’d be nice also to have specific groupings for journal entries. Like for example, I may want to document each week of my pregnancy and have a grouping for all those entries.

When I first found out and discovered this app on my iPhone. I was thinking and saying to myself. Alright I’m going to start using this app more often now. :D

All it needs for me to use constantly is the search feature. I’m going to keep making entries in hopes they add it.

I don’t understand the ‘connected’ part. It’s a conversation? But the other person can’t see it? What’s the point of that?

Wow. That last part about how your dad passed away... I would LOVE to have those features on his phone. It's been almost two years and I still haven't had the heart to mess with his devices or anything because i would love to be able to archive some memories and content in a way that doesn't mean it ends up as just another folder somewhere on my computer. I would also love if you could import info from other note taking or journaling apps. For some basic entries from apps I've used previously so it's all together.

Shame, because without being able to set a separate passcode there is no way I would even consider singing. Not having a search feature is a nonstarter for me too.

My first reaction is "cool, but what exactly is the point?" After a couple of weeks of this, I can imagine it feeling like busy work. What is the actual utility of it all? Do we need to chronicle our lives in a granular way like this?

As part of my foreign language training, I use the journal app as a foreign language diary. It works well for this.

Now they will know everything about me in one place 😅

Just another way for the Government and companies to keep records of people of their thoughts this is the start of phase 1 end game is a chip or 24/7 surveillance on a credit score system, like China has implemented on those poor citizens

The fact that it is not available for ipad is very frustrating

Why isn't it available for iPad, which makes more sense than writing on a cell phone?

Two additional features would be welcomed…
1. Share and collaborative options for journal entries. It would be a great way to highlight events or moments with others that were a part of the experience being recorded.
2. Add hashtag capability for journal entries to go along with search capabilities you included in your wish list for future updates.

I love journal so far but agree some of recommendations would make it even better. I'm not a big fan of posting everything I do on social media so love this app as I get to post to journal and then can look back and it's just for me. Love your videos. Keep posting

I don't like that it doesn't have a way to create folders to organize/categorize. Sticking to Notes app.

Sadly it sounds like the Journal App isn't fully developed. You lost me at "not available on iPad MacBook"...

I just got my new 15 plus yesterday and updated software today. The journal app showed up. I will most certainly use this app. Thank you so much for this video. Awesome job.

Does anyone know how to get it to pick up books in the Audible app?

Sorry about your dad. Thanks for this useful review. I recently started caring for my grandson while his parents work. I use the app to jot down things about his day. I would love to be able to share the entries with my daughter in law. I’m enjoying this app.

Nobody should use the three dots. In almost every Apple app you can swipe to the left or right to get some more options. To the left is always delete and right always save and with the journal app it’s only those two options.

It is NOT powerful. It is utterly useless for all but the most basic of things. This IS NOT a journal. Apple notes is more powerful. You can’t even change the font. BOLD !! Ya thats relaxing. Lets make the text start as normal then mid sentence make it all jump to bold. As a prolific pen and paper writer I am very disappointed in apple journal. Day one is vastly superior and as much as I was looking forward to apple journal I just can’t use it. Many changes required, I am sure that they will get there some day though.

I feel they should just integrate this into Apple notes instead of having a separate app.

It was an excellent app for a week, and then it stopped making updated suggestions. I checked my settings, and they turned themselves off for some reason. I turned them back on, and still no updated suggestions, just the old places I've been. The app refuses to track my activities lol (imagine that). I will go back to my paper journal until they fix this thing. Any suggestions?

I wish I could do several things:

Share journals (suppose I want to send myself or someone an email)

Search journal entries

Have a native option to send notes to journals (I have used the notes app since 2013, I have a lot of notes which can be considered journal entries)

Create custom folders for journals

Hope they add it to the mac
