MODERN TRAILER – Star Trek: The Motion Picture

Chills. So damn good.

Wow, I'm disappointed Scotty won't be in this movie.

I saw this in the theater when it came out. I took two young boys, I believe 9 and 12. Forty minutes into it, they asked me if we could leave. I should have said yes.

This preview demonstrates that Star Trek: The Motion Picture could have been an incredible relaunch of the franchise.
Instead, it nearly killed it.

Given how truly awful the original Star Trek movie was ...
It's a genuine mystery how the movie franchise managed to survive with a handful of much better movies. I mean, seriously, when you get off to a bad start, it's not exactly easy to risk more of the same. Hey, but I surely am glad they did -

It's funny how when I first became Trek-aware in the mid 90s, TMP was looked upon with a remarkable amount of disdain, moreso than even when it first came out. As time went on it seemed to just get more and more despised, and I never understood it. Even the EXTENDED edition VHS (you know, the long version of the longer version) felt like a complete and generally positive experience... so now seeing all these people who all love TMP does my heart so much good. I think the Trek fanbase still has a LOT of growing to do, since it's still suceptable to these orgies of blind same-think hatred of something because (insert 21st century buzzword here) , but it's nice to see people coming around on the classics.


Now, how to explain why I unironically adore Star Trek V....

The only way you could improve this is by culling the audio from the original TV commercials where Sir Lawrence Olivier says 'STAAAA TREK.... THE MOTION PICTURE....rated 'G'" and overlay it on the title graphic at the end. Otherwise this is brilliant.

Who's here after seeing the new 4K remaster of the Director's Edition?

After not seeing this classic for many years, I revisited it a couple of days ago. Older, hopefully, wiser eyes watched a great Sci fi movies. In my view, ST at it’s best. Your trailer was so good it made me want to watch it again…today!

Good editing but why use cheesy generic music instead of one of the best film scores of all time?

I love this. In my opinion a few edits and a bit more personality from the lead 3 characters, and this would/could have been one of the best star trek films. You make it look amazing, well done!

Klingons not shown once in the trailer? Correct me if I'm wrong, but that is a bold move, and I like it.

I think if I had seen this trailer back then, and then gone to see the actual movie, I would have been pissed off! lol The trailer here is amazing! The movie itself has a pace about 1/100th of what is portrayed in this trailer.

Star Trek TMP had a few fantastic things going for it,like Jerry Goldsmith Score,the refit Enterprise is stunning still to this day,& the effects are still “Eye Candy”! If you were the one who made this trailer is ‘79 I wouldn’t be able to sit down for a week because you made this movie look like Citizen Kane! You are a gifted editor & I hope Paramount see’s it!

Great trailer, shoulda started with the little triangle (?) pings that set up the boldly go speech.

A movie that ages like a fine wine. Gets better with time.

If they'd edited out the 25-minute trip through the "object," and made it something else besides the Voyager probe...well then.

This is still my favorite of the series. I always like the more cerebral episodes on the original tv series, and this hit all those buttons. Khan is a close second, tho.

Wow... you've made what is a mess.... interesting. :D

First of all, this Trailer was Epic! Really does the film more then justice. Second; For those who missed the meaning of this movie (which is understandable), it isn't so much to do with Voyager 6 (V'ger), but more to do with humanities future. Without going into details, the film wants you to see what happened to Voyager 6 after it explored the Entire Universe/cosmos. Look how big it got, look at how smart it was. If humanity took the same journey that V'ger did, just imagine what would happen to us. What would we become? That's the point behind the films tagline "And the human adventure is just beginning."

Modern trailer is wonderful, awe-inspiring. The movie, though, still stinks.

Brilliant, simply brilliant! This is genius!

Sequences far too short. Most of them not even a full second long. Good for inhibiting thinking and superficial feelings, not for people wishing to sense deeply and who prefer remaining human instead of watching like a moron.

It’s a very slow movie and it’s production was an absolute disaster but I adore this film all the same
