It was also mentioned in the book how the Emperor feared that the house Atreides (and eventually the Harkonnens) would use the harsh environment of Arrakis to train people that rivaled the strength of the Sardaukar, much like how Seclusa Secondus's harsh environment creates the Sardaukar.

This is a good summary of the different factions in Dune.

Just like colonialism here on earth: The imperium is usa, house atredies is china, hakonnen is Member contries of Nato. Iraqis is Africa, because africa has resources which countries take but dont benefit Africans. The benedictus sisters are the church who controlled Europe in the early 1600's

Arrakis was so important, that giving it to one house like Atreides felt suspicious. I feel that there was no way that Duke Leto didn't see the betrayal coming, but he still accepted anyway. Things worked out good for them in the end thanks to Paul, but I highly doubt the Duke was betting on his son being Space Jesus. Leto should have been more prepared.

If you read the dune’s enough u can see all the levels. There are no blacks in frank vision for lots of reasons. The test to see if you are human takes on new meanings if your paying attention. I just saw that pic n had to say something. U kids have fun

I love Dune, and the new movie is awesome. Seems each cinematic telling of this story becomes more and more true, and accurate to the original story and it's intent. However, when Dune I came out in 2021, I got into a rather rousing discussion regarding the inclusion of black people, which brought along with it, the inherent, systemic, institutional racism in this society, which I am sure was not Frank Herbert's original intent. They could not help but to portray all minorities, especially black people, as savages, servants, people of low intelligence, capability, and hopelessly conflicted. In this society, it is next to impossible to portray black people, or "people of color" and anything but, and this just simply destroys the movie, and the story. I am sure, though it is obvious the Dune saga is primarily about white people, it was not the focus, and you could not focus on this. Frank Herbert wisely must have realized this, and did not make racial superiority a Dune theme, as this recent series undeniably does. That said, if the only way you can present black people is as animals in these movies, it's best to keep them out because as a black person, it just makes the movie a very painful and degrading experience.

I havent read the books so I dont know, and I dont know the lore well enough to speculate, but if Arrakis is so central to the emperor's designs, why not just move the imperial seat there, hold Arrakis for himself and put a chokehold on all the other players in the game by controlling what everyone else is fighting for??? Someone explain...

Where do the mentats fit into all of this?

My question is: why did the Emperor and Harkonnen wish for Atreides to "die in the dark"? Would the other two great houses have risen up against this insurrection? I'm just curious why they wanted to kill House Atreides in secret, and why Leto didn't do more to prepare for such an attack when he knew that coming to Arrakis was trap.

The only other big detail that's worth mentioning (but barely addressed in the books) is that the Great Houses provide a substantial check on the Emperor's power by having independent access to nuclear weapons. They've banned them among themselves, but towards the end of Dune it's heavily implied that if the Landsraad became aware of the crimes the Imperial House committed against Atreides, they would likely waive their prohibition of nuclear warfare in order to sink Corrino.

Just FYI, Landsraad means State Council in Dutch. It's very aptly named imo

As far as the addiction to spice and it being deadly if spice is stopped being taken, I am not sure if there is anything in the Dune books of anyone who offers an update tethering from spice addiction? I’m just asking. I’ve read the original books in the 70’s. I don’t remember reading anything about that. Any information is appreciated.
