18 year old me relates big time,…hell 44 year old me gets it. I know this is going to hit so hard when it happens in the remake. I personally believe this moment/decision is what made this game was so greatly received. It was so heavy.

P.S. Aeris was absolutely not a translation error. It's what Square originally chose as the western version of Aerith's. They later decided to go with Aerith, in all regions, for consistency. Square explained this.

How could anyone think Square had the same translation error occur several hundred times in the game and no one on the production staff ever noticed? That's absurd.

Fwiw the Remake and what we've seen of Rebirth make it clear things aren't going to play out the same. Playing through the original doesn't mean we know what will happen now. Will Aerith live? Will someone else die?

Something about watching a grown person around my age have the same experience I had as a 14 yr old kid is healing.

The reason it doesn't get spoiled is because its fucking traumatizing and we don't want yo talk about it.

I saw this as a little bean and it just.. Hit me. That moment little mw decided that I wanted to protect our planet in Aeriths stead. I became an active Climate Activist and politically outspoken.
I've never cut my hair short since then and always kept in a long braid.

During our finals week, everyone dressed up as their Childhood Hero and i obviously picked her.

No one spoils it coz we need to share the trauma.

When that stuff is happening in the Remake.........eeeeeeveryone will cry their eyeballs out.

This OG FF7 brings back memories. I have not finished this originele. But i will if it downloadable on PlayStation 4. I will do a playthrough.

I also am surprised but also glad you didn't have that spoiled for you. I first played this back in 97 (I was 12 and this was my first RPG) My mother had to come check on me from how loud I cried out at the tv.

Too bad you missed out on playing this game with the Echo-S mod that was released earlier this year. They spent over 6 years doing a full VO of the OG and it's actually really fantastic. Even for a 1997 old fart FF7 fan, it made replaying my favorite game of all time exciting again.

How full on is the Aerith moment, i feel your pain, it was such a shock and the Aerith music that is playing all throughout the Jenova fight, it will force you to shed tears Every Single Time. Nothing in any medium has even come close to the shock and sadness of this moment

as a kid, I remember falling for all the urban legends on how to revive Aerith. now maybe VII remake part II might be different.

Imagine playing this in 97 when it can out. The graphics and nonlinear platform were legit groundbreaking.

Gotta be up there as one of the best music scores ever created and is iconic. And if you ever play again there are some amazing extra content like the Weapon fights, the knights of the realm materia… worth maxing levels to do!

Back in the day 'That' scene was even more powerful.

This game is the 1st game that made no. 1 on my list. I've played others on par with it, but never one that surpassed it. Call it nostalgia, or whatever you want, but there it is. I had exactly the same reaction to what happened with Aerith... shock, followed by disbelief, then denial, and then... tears. Like I said, there have been other games that have gave me these kinds of emotions... but this was my 1st, and it will ALWAYS have a special place on my list :')

You gotta be the only person who didn't know how Disc one ends in current day, it THE spoiler in FFVII.

I first played this game in 2002. I got divorced that year(after 10 years of marriage). To fill my free time, until I could bring myself to get back out there socially, I went and bought a PS1 and it came with this game. I fell in love with Aerith, then that happened. So I went through the death of love twice in that one year.

i always hate getting to this part in the game, actually cry every time, im even scared in for when its going to happen in the remake, anything can happen in the remake but i still think they will do this to us

This game has been in my life for 25 years - over half my life - and I've had decades to understand and know these characters and narratives. It is so cool to see someone experiencing this for the first time, thanks for doing this video and letting us relive it a bit with you.
