My senior year in high school consisted of wood class, metals class and power mechanics…only mandatory was English for all 4 years. If I could of swapped English class for another trade class it would of been done instantly.

We had 8th grade wood shop and in HS we had the choice of wood or metal shop. Four years. Class of '59.

In JR High, we have Metal shop including Sheet metal fab, MEtal casting and welding. We had to make a sandcast replica of a Colt 45 for our grade. Amazing no one died between the Metal and Wood shop. I think I was in the last year or two before they got rid of shop, cut back on music and other classes. Of course there was no shortage of money for the football program. Drop by here in Boulder for dinner. Bring your AMEX card..... !

They canceled auto shop, my major (Automotive Technology) and minor (Automotive Engineering) in high school. I only had 2 years of auto shop and still feel cheated. We didn't have home-economics, didn't have metal shop, didn't have wood shop. But they made sure we had boring English, stupid Algebra, and other dumb classes. Crap I don't need and haven't used to design buildings. Fuck being well-rounded students, teach the kids more marketable/survival skills. And btw, fuck that commie, wall hung, south korean junk!

Hey Mikey, I personally believe in the more hands on education, personally that's the way I learned the best in school.
The elimination of Hands-On Classes in school is stupid.
I'm in Canada, I do believe we still have some hands on courses in schools

Fortunate enough to have gone to middle school in the 90’s.
Had wood class, electrical, drafting, and “family and consumer sciences” (home economics).
I built a popsicle stick bridge in a class, and as I recall the teacher ran out of weights trying to break it.

Went to trade school for high school. Alternating schedule with six days of shop, six days of academics, with a related class mixed into the academics weeks where book work, and theory were taught for my trade.

i Took Wood Shop, Metal Shop And The last 2 Years Of Highschool 1972 - 1973 I Went Half Day In The Morning To High School And In The Afternoon I Went To BOCES Vo Tech To Learn A Trade Fixing Automobiles And Ended Up Working For Volkswagen And Audi Dealers For Manyyyy Years Plus All My Side Work For My Own Customers At My Home Shop.
