It should be noted that the first 4 letters of sulforaphane indicate that it contains sulfur. Foods with sulfur may give you gas. People comment that their mason jars get an odor. It's the sulfur! Sulfur is also in MSM widely known for it's medicinal benefits. It too may give you gas. I eat my broccoli sprouts in the evening so I am not farting during the day. The more I eat the more I toots!

Excellent presentation! Very thorough and covers a lot of areas regarding health effects besides being very scientific.
Even if you don't sprout: just eat your vegetables, including cruciferous.
Personally, I love using the steamer basket you can insert in a pot with a moderate amount of water. My favorite "go to" is the lowly cabbage. Advantages: it last longer in it's fresh state (just peel off leaves that get bad); it's inexpensive; and it is easy to chop up. Not to disregard broccoli sprouts pointed out by Rhonda Patrick, PhD, nor the other cruciferous vegetables, but I always have a head of cabbage in my refrigerator.

Regarding the goitrogenic activity of isothiocyanate, I disagree with your statement that severe iodine deficiency is not common. Where the melting glaciers have washed most iodine out of the soil -- in the region between the Great Lakes and the Ohio River, for example -- iodine deficiency is present at dangerous levels even in those who overdo iodized salt intake (hence the original federal mandate for iodized salt to prevent goiter). Add to that the presence of the other halogens in commercial water supplies, toothpastes, and even soft drinks, and you have a perfect recipe for goitrogenic activity as the thyroid has even greater affinity for the higher halogens. Thyroid glands simply cannot make thyroxin, no matter how high one's TSH level soars, without its primary ingredient of iodine. Today we have a population hooked upon synthetic thyroxin as a result, and the potential goitrogenic activity of isothiocyanate pales in comparison to this simple epidemic nutrient deficiency.

Bypassing the small intestine entirely is very likely to increase absorption of the varied biovailable quantities of these beneficial compounds. It has been effective for other sensitive compunds such as resveratrol. A fleeting but increased level of resveratrol could occur outweighing any oral intake level . Now if I could just talk my liver out of removing it so darn rapidly I might be onto an even better something.
Perhaps even the temporary exposure of the miracle of resveratrol to my microbiome and surrounding epithelial wall could induce a positive, however undetectable, response.

I like eating broccoli sprout powder.
BUT, if I eat much of it I get crazy tired and just start taking naps all the time, I feel almost like what I imagine an narcoleptic would feel, I just drift of uncontrollably.
I don't get how people can eat so high doses without getting this side-effect.
For me it is extremely noticeable and dose dependant. I feel better and healthier on a higher dose buy I get intense bouts of tiredness that I just fall asleep and get nothing done.
It is weird.

You have found the most IMPORTANT nutrient and u have just hit the nail on the head .... I saw extracts of these cure skin cancers in a few weeks ... used externally on the cancer .... and the doctors couldn't cure them ...

I've often wondered how much cooking/boiling it takes to deactivate the all important myrosinase. Does anyone know the specific time and temperature numbers...it would be good to know these limits when boiling up some broccoli as compared to steaming it.

Rhonda ,what do you make of The TGA foi document released showing pfizer did no important tests aftef alm together of course with their admission to EU they never even tested for transmission because of " speed of science " only to us lesser mortals it would suggest short cuts . Dr J campell interviews on the document with senator Rennick and a immunology professor who states if a student submitted it to him he would have told them to do it again.
