Hungary provides less then three percent to EU, culturally there is not fit either, The EU and Nato would be better off. Orban whos been in power now for long time has no real term limits, the population seems to like more of a strong man type, they need to go back under the sphere the russian influence and Putin.

Absolutely, both Turkey and Hungary need to leave EU(not applicable to Turkey) and NATO. They should join BRICS, and Hungary should stage Russian forces.

Over the decades, the NATO has prefered to freeze nations out of certain NATO cooperations. A nation can be left out of an arms consortium or coordination groups.

Over the last century, NATO has assumed that it can wait out a non-cooperating member government. The governments of France and Turkey etc would not remain forever.

I don't know how that would work if the non-cooperating member is the USA. It could be done when France was not taking part fully. This hasn't been tried on a government that foregoes democracy and makes itself permanent, either.

It's good to mention the baltic states. The baltic states were and are the most exposed part of NATO in the baltic region. The baltic nations want any security guarantees they can get

Hungary doesn’t even pretend to honour the values of the organisation of which it’s a member. Orban is a disgusting and entirely unprincipled little man. Removing their voting rights within the EU, it seems we’ll need to tolerate them contributing nothing for some time to come. NATO seems stuck with our enemy within.

If your rules are that in your organization all decisions must be taken unanimous , then it is hipocrisy to throw out a country for Vetoing a decision. The result would be a new military pact with Russia like during the cold war.

The weird thing is, Turkey is of huge geographical importance as an ally, so it’s obvious why it feels it can get away with so much. Hungary, not really. Sure, it’s better to have more countries in Eastern Europe int he alliance, but Hungary by itself is far from essential.

The issue is that for some reason NATO was set up as 100% having to agree. Who does that?

I have a giant issue with them kicking out someone simply because they disagree with them. That's how it goes with large organizations.

Again and finally, who would set up something that requires a 100% vote and then be shocked that they couldn't get it Everytime. Geez.

When the government writes its own fundamentalistic, bigoted constitution, makes its own bs laws (which they often break or flat-out ignore as long as it's them) that suit them and even like this they cheat at the elections nation-wide, it is pretty darn hard to get rid of Fidesz, the current RULING party of Hungary. They'd form a full-on dictatorship if they could but that would be bad optics as an EU and NATO member country. Orbán and his thugs are also on Russian payroll, the country's oil company has holdings in Russia and some other not-so-nice countries.

This is a bit more complicated than what is presented. Hungary is a true oligarchy, pretty much what would have happened to the US if Trump managed to pull off the January 6 insurrection. The billionaires rule, the opposition remains as a show. Your everyday voter can't do anything. These people own most of the media, the poorly educated are easily misled and these oligarchs who do NOT care about anything but their money will ruin anyone's life for a damn remark easily. You can easily lose your job just for discussing politics in Fidesz-aligned companies and most of them ARE. Even those that are not owned by them may have people inside.

Most Hungarians who aren't brainwashed or essentially blackmailed into compliance are usually poor and can't escape. It is slowly turning into a prison state. It's all bs! To be honest, our EU and NATO membership is all that keeps Fides from going full dictatorial with reprisals and all that.

Time to do “road repairs” limiting truck traffic until repairs can be completed. Same with airspace. Entirely tired of using western might to protect uncooperative nato members. Wake up he is an autocrat, like Putler and Xe and takes his orders from the dictators union. As an American watching with rapt interest in global circumstances, orban is Eastern European’s problem. Clean up your regional mess or watch the USA withdrawing from NATO become a reality. Many Americans are plainly sick and tired of the US government throwing our money to countries that are autocratic states. China ruzzia and more than a few others threaten the US society pumping drugs and computer hacking to bring down the USA. NEWSFLASH, you need us far worse than we need you, you wanna speak ruzzian or chinese, keep it up, last time the only export from Hungary to the US is shitty news. Hungarian citizens need to wake up and clean their own house, because as an average American I am more than willing to help, but not if you are going to shit in my shoes. Fix it or we will find a US president who will possibly decide that withdrawing from NATO and only inviting proper(no autocrats) countries to join the new and improved NATO II. While there is very little I agree with that my government does, drastic change in our NATO involvement is something I could support.

Central Europe politics are poorly understood/rarely discussed here in the U.S.
We simply thought Orban was a wannabe autocratic bully with an ethnic rightist agenda.
In power since 2010 is proof of his power in Hungary.
Bordering 7 countries including 100 miles of Ukraine should win a stronger backing against a Russian war.

Hungary shouldn't be expelled from the European Union, Hungary should leave the EU. The European Union is an overtly authoritarian organisation that's beginning to resemble the Warsaw Pact, its hatred of sovereign of states and independent thought will be its downfall. As the EUs future gets bleaker by the year, Hungary should look to the East or even to America for trade and prosperity.

If it wasn’t for their NATO membership, Hungary & Turkey would both have been subsumed by Russia decades ago. Their leaders have been seeing Russian benefits while under the protection of NATO. When Erdogan decided to but the Russian antiaircraft missiles, he had been warned that he would not be allowed F35 fighters, because of concerns that he would share our newest technology with Russia. Decisions have consequences!

It looks like Hungary is an ally of Russia, just like Belarus is. Thus, one can wonder why Hungary is not expelled yet from both the EU and NATO. Is NATO going to wait until the inevitable war between Russia and NATO starts to find out which soldiers the Hungarian troops will kill during the war?

Yes, as a hungarian watching videos like this is embarassing, shamefull and sad. Since 2010 when Orban's party (which is more like something inbetween a criminal organisation and a cult) elected i've been on more protest i ever thought to be in my life. Some were with few thousands, some were with tens of thousands. The number of adults with right to vote in Hungary is around 8.2 million people. The votes given to Orban's party since 2010 is between 2-3 million. After winning the 2010 election (with a 2/3 majority) one of the first steps the government took is to completely rework the election system, ensuring that even with a low participation of voters they will earn this 2/3 majority over and over again. Also the corruption builded up since the end of the USSR and it's influence since 1989 left the political scenery of Hungary in ruins, without a unified, strong oppositing party showing up as an alternative against Orban's thugs.
Currently the very bitter truth is that the only alternative to remove Orban from power would be a revolution, which is very unlikely to happen in 2024 in a EU country. Every election since 2010 shows the same picture: in Budapest the FIDESZ (Orban's party) suffers a huge defeat, every other part of the country Orban prevails. The reason? Hungary is a very much centralised country, and the educated masses are centered around the capital, as well as the major working, education and economical opportunities are. Leaving the poorer part of the country much more exposed to the grace of the government. FIDESZ also have an unchallenged influence in the country side, and as you know, the poor, uneducated masses are always the main base of any populist, autoractic systems, since people tend to look for 3rd party reasons for the struggles in their lives (like Brussels, the migrants, Soros, whatever, but not myself).
So in a nutshell, the people of Hungary is as much of a hostage of these criminals as the rest of the EU or the NATO. Don't blame the Hungarians as a nation or people too much, but indeed they need to wake up, and act for themselves, instead of waiting for the EU or the NATO to put Orban back in line... it won't happen, and even if it would eventually, it won't be him and his comrades who will suffer, but the people of Hungary.
I've kinda accepted that i'll live most of my active life under this shame, but since i'm around 20 years younger than Orban, with a little luck, i'll see this man die, and hopefully his corrupt system will die with him - So say we all!

Create an entirely new alliance to replace NATO. The majority would sign up to this new alliance. Following this, the member nations simply resign from NATO, leaving it with only a couple of countries, including Hungary. The new alliance would naturally enough include mechanisms of expulsion and meantime, the roque nations would NOT be admitted. Impossible? No, just difficult.
