After allying them in an AQ->Rum game I can conclusively say that the Mamluks are the chilliest AI ally you can have. While the Ottomans would flip hostile the moment it becomes convenient for them, the Mamluks remained my stalwart ally right up until the moment I betrayed them and started hoovering up their land. I felt bad about doing it too, since they had remained loyal to me through thick and thin.

I suggest you to play as Corsica. It is a hard start but its national ideas are balanced around both to have a competent army and a navy. A pirate republic campaign would fit perfectly to Corsican national ideas and would be fun to watch.

i think if you can't see anything as a country, it gets fixed once the end of the month ticks. not 100% sure about that, though.

You could've done it out of Karaman instead of the Ottomans if you wanted to.

I think if you gotta release a subject of subject you should just first play the vassal get independent without ruining, then releasing the actual challenge target and defeat both overlords?
