I’m getting ready to instal nickel gap on a ceiling for a client. Currently, the ceiling is exposed joist. I honestly can’t see any reason to install Sheetrock prior to Nickel gap installation. I respect your decision to do so. However, I have a different perspective. Ceiling joist should not vary. Frankly, if they do, then this variance wouldn’t be rectified by installing Sheetrock. If anything, the Sheetrock will add a significant level of difficulty to the installation and future access to plumbing and electrical connections. While the Sheetrock may add a some degree of insulation, the additional weight of the ceiling can be problematic. If you ever do have a water leak, access will be exponentially more difficult to identify and expose. I don’t see any issues with nailing directly to the ceiling joist using 2 1/2” finish nails without adhesive. I installed a shiplap ceiling directly to ceiling joist a few months ago using finish nails only. I removed a couple of boards during the installation and they were surprisingly hard to remove without adhesive. I even broke one of them trying to remove it. Personally, I like the idea of being able to remove and easily get a visual on plumbing and electrical access points without having to dig through multiple layers of ceiling panels.

Looking great! You could become a builder. Great attention to detail. What size nails are you using for the shiplap?

DOC: I have not noticed that pond fountain/aerator running in a while. Wondering how it is holding up, and if you still Rx that model? Deciding on buying one for our pond. Thank you 😊
