Here's a list, in no particular order of the various reasons that the Democrats lost:
- Inflation
- Immigration
- Using the legal system to go after Trump turned him into a victim
- Joe Biden's mental fitness and covering it up, no primary, anointing Kamala, Kamala only running on two things: 1. Abortion and 2. Trump sucks, and basically avoiding saying anything else of substance, not distancing herself from Biden, and not putting forward much of an agenda of her own and flip-flopping on her previously held positions that were not popular with centrists / independents.
- General dislike of DEI policies, identity politics, and in particular Democrat views on Trans issues and caring more about people's race/gender than their qualifications
- The Afghanistan Debacle
- Insane student loan forgiveness
- Biden's handling of Covid
- Unrealistic EV mandates
- Wars breaking out in Ukraine and Middle East compared to no new wars during Trump's 4 years
- A general disappointment that Biden/Harris ran as moderates, but seemed to govern as far-leftists in many ways (Build Back Better / Inflation Reduction Act).
- A dislike of Democrat elitism and being shamed into silence. Many people felt that if they disagreed with certain aspects of the Democrat agenda they had to keep it quiet... It didn't change their mind, it changed whether or not they were willing to speak their mind. People resented that and voted accordingly.
- A feeling that Biden probably did something unethical in regards to his son's foreign business dealings, and that since Biden couldn't be punished for it, Harris would be.
- A feeling that some Democrats actually support Hamas
- New media / podcasts and social media helping reframe the media landscape that has previously always favored democrats, which allowed people to hear the arguments from both sides in a more neutral way. Kamala failing to take advantage of the opportunity to go on Joe Rogan's podcast not only denied her an opportunity to market herself to a huge audience, but also made it appear as if she wasn't willing/able to hold a substantive long-form conversation.
- Resentment over previous Democrat attempts to suppress speech that they disagreed with (Covid, Hunter's laptop). Constantly calling speech they disagreed with misinformation / disinformation
- Stupid left-wing policies / ideas in regards to crime like "defund the police" and decriminalizing shoplifting in certain jurisdictions. It sounds ridiculous because it is ridiculous.

It wasn't one thing. It was all of them combined. Democrats have to cope with the fact that many of the positions that they hold are now unpopular and many of the things that they tried did not work (in the eyes of the voters).

The analysis was hyper-dramatic, but not as delusional as I was expecting. Basically, NYT acknowledges the Biden admin did not perform up to the expectations of the American people, war in Gaza didn't help in Michigan, and Walz was a nothing burger. I'll give them credit for not playing the race or gender cards. What is interesting here and across Democratic media outlets is the lack of acknowledgement of Kamala's own personal shortcomings - they are conveniently forgetting she was the least popular VP in polling history, who they tried to magically transform in 100 short days into someone authentic, qualified and likeable. Thought experience: if Kamala and Hillary debated (or Kamala and Tulsi . . .), which one do you think would wipe the floor?

Simple! Voters didn’t care! Voters love to whine and complain! They whine about the economy. The better economy was Biden’s! They whine about food costs. Harris offered to get rid of price gauging for food. Voters didn’t want it! They like to complain! Voters complained about housing. Harris offered to build more houses and lower rents and help get your first home you bellyached. Voters didn’t want that! Complaining more fun! Apathetic voters stayed home, while complaining. Voters chose a con man, liar, convicted felon, selfish narcissist who knows only retaliation and hate. And what will those voters do? Complain when Trump wrecks their lives not caring everyone is in the same boat. And no one wanted a woman as president preferring a convicted felon, con man, liar, bigot, dictator wannabe! Voters refused to pay attention. Politics don’t just affects us just before elections.
