Good video, thanks from Italy. You say the truth. Starfield was a ridicolous and pathetic old arrogant act fron the studio that has created my love Morrowind and my friend Oblivion. Skyrim was good but it is very commercial. I hope in the heart of Todd and Bethesda group, because they don't know our what they have did in our life with their games. We want new, lovely, epic, mystic, deep, realistic, Morrowind in photorealistic graphic in two lands, maybe hammwrfeel, higrock, I hope also Vvanderfell. Thank you Bethesda, I hate you for this long waiting but I really love you.

Your video was great. I'm a fallout fan. Bethesda died long ago. I was bored with starfield. I tried stalker 2 this weekend. I'm afraid next elderscrolls gonna be junk. I'm still playing fallout 4. I've been so disappointed so many times. Why Bethesda? Why? Ugh.

Bald Man kept saying you were coping. I just want you to know, you're not, you're speaking as a disgruntled fan who wants Bethesda to do better. A lot of fans of long running series go through this. I can't begin to count how many times my one friend has ranted to me about call of duty, or pokemon, or star wars. And i certainly went through this myself too with things like The Simpsons. You have my sympathy my dude. I hope you find something that'll fill that empty void in your heart that Bethesda left behind.

I still don't get how people got excited for the DLC, let alone the base game of Slopfield, after FO76.

I canceled a preorder of the 76 collectors edition after they revealed there were no NPCs.
I'm glad I avoided the whole mess that followed with 76 and Starslop.

I'm not afraid, but not for the reason you might think. In my many gamer years I've come to learn many valuable lessons. And the one that comes to mind most over this "concerned for ES6(or whatever game)" is the very simple basic truth that, now read this part slow and carefully: We, are not, owed, anything! Now go read it twice more. Did you do that? Okay, now, Got it? Here's what that means. We are just a consumer, and a game studio is a producer of a product. The creator/buyer contact is simple: they make a thing, if we want that thing we buy that thing. But here's where we've been bamboozling ourselves, that doesn't mean the NEXT thing is somehow owed to us. We did not pay for that thing, it doesn't exist yet. Just because we love the last thing, there is zero obligation on the producer to guarantee that we like the next thing. We do not own it, your brand loyalty is a trap in your own mind. Your wanting the next thing to somehow take you back to how the last thing made you feel is the grip of nostalgia and nothing more. So I don't 'worry' any more about the next product they make. I've become comfortable with the truth that I'm not obligated to have expectations anymore than the company is obligated to make my next favorite experience simply because they did before. This has been true of franchises like Final Fantasy, Mario, Ace Combat, Star Wars, and so many more. We are not owed anything and expecting it and fearing for it when you have no control of it is completely useless. Instead look for the next lightning strike and be prepared for it to happen anywhere. For me it's been Satisfactory, for others lately it might be Metaphor, or Space Marine 2. But don't expect or anticipate that lightning will strike where it did before and wait there just because you liked it the last time. The horizon is wide, take it all in and be free. We were never owed for our loyalty.

The last time i felt like i played a real Bethesda game was the Far Harbor DLC. Fallout 4 is hot garbage as RPG but the choices in that dlc had consequences

Now on to starfield, they wanted to do NASA punk, so why did they opt for galaxy travel? This should have been a space opera that took place in OUR solar system. it would make the areas tighter and keep loading down. Also with the smaller sandbox (11 billion miles in radius.. you poor thing) you can craft almost every location and have your precious procedurally generated for the dull bits.

Bethesda devs that made old Skyrim are retired/fired. However the "old way" of Bethesda lives on as their game engine is producing games that feel like its from two decades ago full of bugs and low level of detail (aside from graphics). Two decades ago this was alright with the right devs to carry with creative but that's just not happening anymore.

They're too scared to release anything about ES6. Since Morrowind, they just keep cutting content while giving it a good polish. Keep polishing the same diamond and you get less and less of it, and even if you try to put plastic over it to give it volume one day the diamond is gone.
Skyrim was the last bit of it. They know it. Their last hope was the modding community and even them don't care anymore.
This, is an end of an era, and I just hope sometimes something will rise from the ashes to save our video game passion.

I think people are just basically wrong. The dude in this video quoted Oblivion, when your decision in neither Oblivion nor Skyrim changed shit about the ending. And almost the same happened to Fallout 3 and I didn't finish 4 to know how much your choices made a change. People are just delusional and are exaggerating things because they are in a hate wagon, and that doesn't mean that the writing isn't bad in this game, but the points that people are pointing out can be found in all Bethesda games since it's made in a "3D Open World":

1- It was always exposition over showing, even in New Vegas, or did you forget the fucking dialogue with the president? The quote "show, don't tell" is listed as a TOP 5 bad advices for one of the best writers of fantasy Brandon Sanderson, is a rhythm question not a "show, don't tell", sometimes you need to tell and others to show, it is never a rule you must use all the time. The problem with Starfield is that they start with the "tell", an excessive one, right from the beginning. Starting with a tell is what characterize Bethesda in all the games this dude said, the thing is that usually the information was delivered while moving, was incomplete, or incorrect. One of the good points of their games is the fact that they didn't expend too much money showing, and the mystery drove the players out there to find the answers. Starfield didn't.

2- People have forgotten why Mass Effect was a game changer in the game industry in its storytelling, it was the first one that would carry your decisions from all the games, and even in that case they needed to do some compromises in order to so, that's why Mass Effect 3 ending was hated. In all Bethesda games the decisions never made a change, and no, choosing 2 o 3 different endings does not make all the decisions in your game valuable. Decisions were only valuable for the rest of the game but the ending.

3- The reason why you don't want to discover Starfield is because is segmented and is not connected through a world, nothing more. If you manage to only do the dungeons of Skyrim, without ever touching outside, I can assure you that you would have a worst experience than Starfield. One, because it wasn't designed for that reason. Two, because Bethesda never knew how to make disjointed content entertainment. Third, because being a part of a world is what ignites the sense of adventure and discovery. I have seen for years how people play Bethesda games, and are doing the stupid in the overworld or in the cities, not paying attention to the missions. The details for every "unique" and "handmade" part of Starfield has the same value as in their other games, I can assure you, but the problem here is that they are repeated by algorithmic maps in different worlds that erode that feeling.

The reason why "old Bethesda games" felt different is because you were younger, knew less about storytelling and the writing has been worse, but not so much as people are saying today, it's all 3 not only the last one. Also, most of the people that like fantasy games don't like space exploring games, if you don't like doing nothing for 30 minutes in a game, then you will not like this kind of game. And I'm not defending Bethesda here, Halo Games did an amazing showcase of what it is a Spacial Exploration game with No Man's Sky, but I bet 80% of the player base of Skyrim will not like No Man's Sky gameplay.

Also, I have read in comments that people have left the studio and are not the same, which is true, but those same people didn't talk about the games those people created in their studios, they are no better than what Bethesda has made, and definitely not wrong. The only fear I have is if Starfield wasn't the last game created by their Engine, they need something completely new, and I bet that Starfield was so bad because Xbox wanted a new Bethesda game sooner. I hope that is the case, because if TES VI is with this fucking Creative Engine or whatever the name is... Then we can say fuck no!

There are people that will say that for then it would be too late, but it was too late for Fallout 4 already. Also, I don't know if this is real or my memory is leaking, but I do remember in some interview that the writers for TES do not work for the other games... maybe it's right considering the amount of books that are created for each installment.

The thing is Starfield isn't bad in comparison to older Bethesda games. It is that your perception has changed because you have played other games that are just better than the same thing Bethesda has been making for years, and years. Morrowwind was their last good, original game where the innovated, and tried with the story.
Oblivion? Skyrim? Fallout 3? Fallout 4? Starfield follows the exact same formula for the most part. The magic was never in Bethesda it was in you.

I think that what Asmongold doesn't understand is that there are players who love RPGs where world building and lore are priority. Immersion happens only if world building and lore are rich, consistent and detailed (archetype : Lord of the Rings). These players are not in it for flashy combats (think Elden Ring) and certainly not for "end games" with neon colors all over the place and jumping all the time (think WoW) .
I am like you - I loved Skyrim, TESO, Morrowind exactly for that reason : consistent and detailed world building and lore where the player has great freedom and plenty of the world to explore with non linear quests.
And yes, I am very afraid that ES6 will crash and burn because they have only low brow (and probably woke) writers who are not worthy to enter the ES lore ande world.

I agree with many of your opinions on Bethesda, and their newer games. Personally I have a couple of theories about why the quality has gone down so sharply in the quality of the story telling.

First, I do have to point out that fallout 76 was a cash grab, Todd Howard admitted to that. As I understood what happened was that after a while of the game being out, a new head of development was put in and with a hell of a lot of work was able to fix most of the issues with the game. The fact that a new head of that department was able to pull that game out of the dumpster fire it was and crafted it into something decent is pretty impressive.

So getting back to Starfield, theory one is that as the world was built, but the story wasn't as well formed around it. So we, as the customers, received a story that was lacking, though the world it's in is pretty cool.

Theory two is a far more controversial topic. We Americans are known for going overboard in most things we do, and with the currant state of our cultural instability that leads to all sorts of issues with developing a story in media. People are terrified of creating something that someone else may find to be controversial and being the next company to be “canceled”. Most writers are either trying to slam their personal beliefs into projects, while others are trying to not offend the groups that will effectively attack and ruin a game, TV show, movie or other media. This basically leads to poor stories, that will satisfy no one, and leave everybody unsatisfied.

With the classics like morrowind, Skyrim and fallout 3, you don't see this as much. You have stories that are fairly well built, where decisuons have consequences. This is simply the gaming version of a participation trophy.

If you want me to be honest.... I have every Elder Scrolls CD and DVD they have released... I love it, but Bethesda is not the same as it was... they lie, they just a small copy of Blizzard... They ruined Fallout 67, they ruined Starfield, both games are utter trash! Elder Scrolls 6 will be trash as well... They will try to grab you with old formulas with a new look.... I have heard they want to take away modding and only the from the store get mods for real money. Mods play a huge part of the franchise... move on, buddy. Cyberpunk is the king right now, no chance Elder Scrolls could even in a dream stand up next to it. No chance!

Fallout 4 had terrible writing, and was both very mature, yet felt somehow like a T rated game. 6/10.

ESO was alright… but mmo mechanics separated the community. And a slight arcade art style is very distasteful for a part of the fan base. Exploring Tamriel was the high point of the game.

Fallout 76 made all serious fans give up on them.
