I skimmed through most of the beginning of these books but enjoyed the middles and ends thoroughly. I HATED Aspen and Maxon was my favorite character. Which is prob why Adrien is my favorite character now that I think on it

i read this book back when i was 12 and even back then it pissed me off so bad. i hated america so much for how she was 2 timing maxon and aspen BUT got mad when maxon was talking to other girls only because he was oblidged to. i also hated aspen cause he knew she could literally be killed if they got caught but still continues to persue her. madox was nothing but a darling the whole series but america just pissed me off even in the daughter spinoff

i'm rereading the entire series again (minus the two spin-offs which i despise) because i recently watched the two failed tv show pilots the cw cooked up in 2012 & 2013 when they tried to adapt the series

I liked the books okay, for teen novels, they're better than average, but really, should have ended at book 2, the third one just dragged everything on too long.

These books were like my life when i read them in 7th, like i was shocked on every instance

i swear you made this book sound better than when i actually read it cuz i didn't really like Maxon(he was just boring) until the elite, America was a little bit bit crazy half of the time and Aspen... i liked Aspen... that is until i realized he had anger issues then i straight flipped to to team Maxon even if i found him boring

Fragile ego and fragile masculinity for a bit, but my gosh was the Aspen in my head the most handsome man in the world

These unhinged recaps are absolutely wonderful XD, I remember seeing these books on the shelf in my school library and was always curious about them, and this was such an entertaining look into the series. XD

The concept of America and Maxon just being buddies and having a genuine friendship is a cute concept and I think I would’ve liked it more if they were just platonic for a while and had that buddy-buddy gossipy vibes like you described when America was first telling Maxon about Aspen. Building up a genuine friendship first that then turns into a romance in a later book maybe or even having a twist where they never fall in love and she gets some sort of working position that allows them to stay close as friends or something would’ve been fun. Like there might be something morally bad about that last option (especially because I do not remember where the politics in these books go) but I’ll always think a relationship is better when there is also genuine friendship.

I read this book and enjoyed it but the age demographic is definitely middle school but if you take that into consideration it’s amazing!
