How do you know when to start recording? I've always wanted to railfan and start a channel but Idk how to know when a train is coming except for the train signals. I know if it's red, it's less likely for a train, yellow means it's possible and green means that there is a train nearby. Other than that, Idk when to start recording

I grew up in Burbank, IL, about 45 minutes away from the Joliet Sub via I-80. I'd love to see some railroad crossings there. There's a crossing near Cicero and Southwest Highway that might be interesting to railfans.
