Religion,our culture, nationalism,patriotism, even intellectualism. The basic need to be part of a group or a tribe, and a sense of belonging has always been a well documented part of our human history.
Fear is the strongest emotion in which these ism,s are born and are created. Many atrocities have been committed because of a mob mentality, or tribal response that overrides our inherent reasoning or basic law within ourselves.
At the same time, we can understand the feeling and desire for protection. Protection from those who want to end our lives, take away our basic needs,if only to enrich themselves a bit more. To hold onto to power so they may continue to have control over many. Slaves. Its all animalistic in nature.
If intelligence alone would rid mankind of such evil I'm all for it. However, that isn't the case. Until one can understand their are higher powers than man in charge, and powers that are evil, only then can one begin to understand more clearly why our world is in such a condition. Very interesting video. Understanding consciousness by a scientific approach I feel can only take us so far. I honestly don't think we were created to know. The mystery and desire to know is strong. but we clearly are only ever selfish in the most fundamental form. people only ever do 'good' if it makes us feel good, either directly, or indirectly, in the near, or what we predict for the future. e.g. your example of parents doing things for their children, is based on our evolution and how our brain interprets emotions etc. even if it may be illogical at times, even you have talked about how many people are often illogical. humans are not perfect.

ever wondered if the question you are asking is wrong? what tells you consciousness exists in the way most people discuss it? it's a way for animals to do well in evolution, that's it, it has no beginning mutations that caused it, nor final mutation, it's more like a spectrum of how advanced brains take in information, leading to behaviours. we are too centric on ourselves and too subjective

It's physical, just like everything else. No meaning.

Consciousness is not just extreme pleasure. Consciousness is the realization of immortality and the realization that everything is heaven. When you realize that, it's so good, it's infinitely good. It's not just good. It's good to the infinite degree. It's so much goodness that you can't contain it. your body can't hold it. Your entire body shakes and shudders in a cosmic orgasm of bliss. It's perfection. It's total peace. It's absolute love, that's truly consciousness.

Nothing tells me better that someone has no aptitude for philosophy than when they assume that something must exist with a purpose. Conscious does not have a purpose. It just exists as a consequence of our physical reality. The title is an extremely stupid question for assuming otherwise.
