That compressed load with your 1849 is downright impressive. Best I could do with any powder was about 780 fps with Triple 7. About a 20 grain charge. I would be curious what your estimated charge was.

Great video! Is that not actually a baby dragoon? I point out the oval cylinder stops without lead ins and the square back trigger guard.

Mike Belivue (Duelist1954) used in his Uberti 1849 and the gun didn't blow up and I wonder what kind of velocity using 4F black powder would get in .31 and .36 cap and ball guns. Might to worth doing a video on to see what velocities 4F powder can do in a variety of muzzleloading guns.

I would love to see you do this exact same test with the era's gone bullet mold conical. Might get more.. But it will be less powder.

When I did informal bullet penetration tests, I used a line of 1 gal. water jugs on a table at waist level. Kneeled so the the muzzle was 10' from the first jug. Very splashy!

curious about this test on regular 3f powder though not pyrodex.. i always stay away from pyrodex, people i heared it gets very dirty and hard to clean etc

Yes sir. Nice. I'm get me a chrony. So helpful in figuring out stuff on different powder's, bullets ,u know. But then I'm do my remi 58 8" barrel n powder and 45 acp kurst konverter, and colt navy 5" barrel. Both are pietta 44s.
Thinking of putting steel plate in front of chrony so just rods stick up. And Mount cheap camera or just have walk up look every shot. Idk but I know I don't won't to hit it like u saying. Get little costly over me jerking trigger or a flyer. ,and off sites well love videos keep up great job put the lead on target🎯

Anybody have a clue when the Remington is going to be available? Midway says it’s overdue to be in stock. Right now a colt wells Fargo pocket is on sale $50 off but I really just want the Remington and don’t want to settle with a colt when a week later the Remington finally hits the market. I want the Remington because of its size. 7.5 inches is a lot better than 9.5. Any and all advice is welcome

Would your box for an 1858 Remington like mine have room for a box of 50 cowboy loads in one of the compartments? Maybe room too for me to put my percussion cylinder in? Also I would love to see you get a Howell .32 S&W conversion cylinder for your 1863 Remington and compare it to the .22lr and the baby colt in .31 caliber cap and ball

FFFFG powder will give these a little more kick.

So you’re doing a test comparing two pistols and you don’t even know how many grams of powder you are using? How is that fair? One could hold more powder than the other

Andrew using Pyro decks that burns hotter than normal black powder and it makes your guns rust way more. That’s why your Remington cylinder is so rusty.

Try using Swiss 4 F powder.

I may just be a fool. I know we are not in person and this is recorded. However please consider not flagging the camera. When filming please treat the camera as a person. If you got this hap hazard about muzzle control in person seriously I would have shot you. Maybe this is the comfort from not having a cameraman but treat the camera as if your mom were holding it.
Just good habits to get into. Just look at Alec Baldwin, gun control starts with us owners. Demonstrate the 4 main at all times so others may learn from our examples.

Have you ever seen a mod to put a trigger guard on a pocket Remington? The spur trigger seems like a huge drawback

Does the Remington have the easy cylinder removal feature? If so that is possibly a pro over the Colt.

I have just ordered the 1863. I ordered the brass model from Taylor. They have not been available for a long time so I went with whats available. I have the identical 1849. I am hoping the 1863 is a better shoot. Thank you for the excellent video

You want increase the vol and pen you need to use .232 round balls ir cinicals. Real black powder as these were originally designed for (4f) will also do wonders.
