Dan BORINGern
Ответитьand that takedown jujitsu stuff ... bring back Tim The Tank
ОтветитьDid this to my older cousin... Go after the legs, take it to the floor
ОтветитьI wish the UFC would go back to the old format.
ОтветитьDan would wipe the floor with every boxer , and most martial artist of all time , today no one could stand before him
ОтветитьThose were the good old days. Dan was the True Beast.
ОтветитьLet us also respect the fact that the Beast was a grappler behind all of that wrestling pedigree. The grappler in Dan is far more dangerous than the wrestler
ОтветитьHad ufc on vhs in 1993.
ОтветитьThank you for this video, I can only say wow and do remember those fights. Those were the days when men fought nonstop, until one is out cold or brutally beaten. Dan Severn "The Beast" was no doubt t the toughest of them all. The GOAT, even been today, 9/2023.
ОтветитьGot all the early UFCs on DVD. On occasions, I like to have a few drinks on a friday night and watch a few old fights. Reminisc about the good old days of MMA.
ОтветитьSo if Dan wasn't being a nice guy and not striking the face, he would have mauled Gracie
ОтветитьMayor Haggar?
ОтветитьIf I was surrounded by my mortal enemies, there would be only two men on Earth that I would want on my side. Dan Severn and Don Fry. We would be invincible.
Ответитьso crazy they used to fight more than one fight a night back then. old school hard as nails dudes.
ОтветитьThese boys aren't equipped like the modern fighters.
ОтветитьDan Severn still gives me the willies! Love that beast, thanks for a great retrospective, especially the rare no-silly-british-accent HUMAN NARRATOR!
ОтветитьHe tortured Tank lol
ОтветитьThe narrative and video doesn't match up at all. Just make believe narration. "A brute" 😂
ОтветитьSo, when Dan got hurt during a fight did he get Dan Severance pay?
ОтветитьDan Severn beats guys half his size. Wow! He would get smoked in the modern heavyweight division.
ОтветитьMost important martial art in mma: wrestling! Period!
ОтветитьFascinant
ОтветитьI was there. Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Ответить''Arguing that wrestling was not a martial art'' LOL WHAT?
Ответитьvery polite guy outside of the ring. proper warrior i would say. only fought other fighters. would be a real moron to mess with him on the street even now in his 60s. i remember ken shamrock and don fry joking about him never having had a street fight. those 2 had street fights but then their backgrounds were different i guess.
ОтветитьI once owned a book on classic 19th century wrestling and there was a guy in it of whom I only remember that he was an instructor at West Point, had a physique standing out from the other barrel-chested guys, gave the tip to avoid starchy food and Dan Severn very much looking like him.
These crazy old days of UFC, literally about as ultimate fights can get below combat. I recall these guys showing up in their respective attire, testing representing their arts (with bar brawling officially qualifying as such) as much as testing their individual skills. Each fight had the potential to come to some interesting conclusion, people getting defeated by techniques they did not know like Severn getting caught in Gracie's leg triangle. That showed that technique could actually defeat a physically superior opponent if caught unawares. Nowadays, the art has evolved to such an extent that 95% of all possible techniques seem nullified, impressive but not necessarily more interesting to watch.
Dan Severn never played in a rock band
ОтветитьFascinating watching this blood sport evolve
ОтветитьSo respectful he elbowed to the back of head n neck?
ОтветитьSo this is where Khabib's inspiration came from
ОтветитьYour pronunciation of "Okinawan Shorin Ryu" and "Vale Tudo" are highly suspect
ОтветитьGrabbing tank by the leg and leading him to the ropes? Got up and grabbed the ropes? Show me a rope? Just show me 1?
ОтветитьRoyce Gracie backing out is a common thing from what I hear. They flash the undefeated record but withdraw when tired before they lose.
Ответить'Many believed that martial arts made a fighter..'
Shows Tank Abbot, a street fighter.
Ok xD
A different breed
ОтветитьWonder why Severn didn't strike Gracie when he had many chances. Commentary says he doesn't believe in striking from the guard but you can see him do it later fights.
ОтветитьThe one guy I believe could out wrestle Daniel Cormier
Ответитьhehe I used to be on a constant hunt for the video tapes of these original matches, you always had to wait for someone to return them. The low budget cheesiness, but brutal fights, were great, like a low level faces of death.
ОтветитьRespect to all those fighters who stepped in the octogon. Takes balls and putting your ego on the line
ОтветитьThe real live Zangief. Goddamn
ОтветитьThe beast and others like him really gave credence to grappling and wrestling. Most (but not all) martial artists of the 90s saw wrestling and grappling as inferior to stand up fighting. Someone who had wrestled vs. someone who could street fight--these were different things. For good reason also, trying to get tangled up with someone on the concrete or if there were other potential combatants (friends) around getting on the ground with your opponent wasn't the way to go. Despite all this, beast was amazing and between him and the other ground fighters of the day it was eye-opening to fighters who only fought on their feet.
ОтветитьWatching these early UFCs in the early 90s as a kid felt soo taboo, I'm glad my pops rented em and i got to watch them then. Always remembered "the guy with the gi" winning.. remembered the name Gracie and years later in 2004 found their website and started learning more about BJJ
ОтветитьWas rob riggle a ref?
ОтветитьBefore Brock this guy was the beast
ОтветитьLol.. Wow
ОтветитьLoved watching Severn back in the day
