I find it difficult to believe all of the bad stories about Caligula. It was obviously a plot designed by mocked soldiers and jealous senators who thought he was too popular with the people. Some of the stories may be true, but 2,000 years of history have virtually erased the link between reality and vicious lies.

Part of me often wonders, in the case of some of these rulers, how much of this is manufactured bullsh*t?
