Why does the bust of Caligula look like Joffrey from GoT?
ОтветитьJoffrey Baratheon looks like some of the statues 😂. I wonder if George R R Martin based the unpopular character on the infamous Roman Emperor?
ОтветитьCaligula was an infidel.
ОтветитьTiberius had Germanicus killed. He was too popular in Rome and Tiberius was getting getting chastised in Syria by fierce resistance. Caligula may have been imperial blue-blooded Roman, but his egregious excesses were just the excuse his enemies needed to have him killed. A Tiberian sun still set on "Our Sea".
Ответитьshe tells the stori like shes loking down on caligula she insuting the history of italy like shes better than all the famymous people... proffesor haha u know ur history of ur country ? the united kindom is so much vorse all of the united kingdom is the bigest gravejard in the world 😂😂
ОтветитьThe assassins all had personal reasons for killing Caligula, but they made the mistake of not having the power to replace or change the government after his death, so they ended up getting the axe anyway. Getting rid of the leader of a government you want to overthrow is only the first step---after that you have to have the power and a plan in place to change the government. These men had no such power or plan. So the Guard stepped in, and "elected" Claudius, because they did not want to lose their own rich lifestyle.
ОтветитьHe reminds me so much of Donald trump
ОтветитьInteresting. A little more gentle and easy to look at hostess would have been nice.
Ответитьwho knew Abraham lincoln was alive?
Ответитьı don't think he was a psychopath, some hisorical records in regards had been exaggerated due to political reasons.
Ответитьlol at Emperor Diddums
ОтветитьYes he was a victim of his environment and those around him
ОтветитьI find it difficult to believe all of the bad stories about Caligula. It was obviously a plot designed by mocked soldiers and jealous senators who thought he was too popular with the people. Some of the stories may be true, but 2,000 years of history have virtually erased the link between reality and vicious lies.
ОтветитьWHY DO PEOPLE BELIEVE EVERYTHING OTHERS SAY? PARTICULARY, HISTORIANS THAT TELL THINGS LIKE IF THEY WERE THERE THEMSELVES?
HUMANITY NEEDS TO LEARN TO QUESTION EVERYTHING TO BE ABLE TO GET TO THE TRUTH. AFTERALL, THOSE WHO ARE CONDEMNED ARE NOT HERE ANYMORE TO HAVE THEIR SAYING. THINK ABOUT IT!
STOP MIXING LIES WITH THE TRUTH!
long live Caligula !!! truly connoisseur of the human soul
ОтветитьFascinating, thankyou Mary ... always enjoy your presentations 👏🙏
ОтветитьA wild hearted son
ОтветитьLove Mary Beard's down-to-earth approach to the Roman empire. Right, Caligula most likely WAS a psychopath, even though his reputation was victim of a smear campaign. Where there's smoke, there's fire.
ОтветитьHe was mad and bad .....
Psyphopat ...high ego how we call narcissem we call that
'Psychopath' at the same time as depicting the Warren Cup displaying 'depravity' .... daring!
ОтветитьThat tunnel is the "Neronian Cryptoporticus" on the Palatine Hill. It is open to the public as part of the Super Sites group. It was originally thought to be from Nero's time but it preceded Nero. Only recently was it identified, by process of elimination, to be the site of the murder.
ОтветитьLike legit, only Mary Beard could make Caligula this boring. Please STFU.
ОтветитьMary Beard, like so many boring people that use too many words to get attention instead of educating, needs to STFU more, and not pretend she's David Attenborough. Please just tell us about interesting things, and don't pretend you're a good narrator about actual interesting things.
STFU.
According to Philo, who personally saw and talked with Caligula, he really acted like megalomaniac brat. Give spoiled teen absolute power and see what you get. You get Caligula, you get Nero, you get Elagabalus, Commodus or Caracalla... No one should have absolute power and if it is inevitable, then this person must act normally and be at least 30+ old and have some life experience and insight. Like Trajan, Hadrian or Marcus Aurelius.
ОтветитьHow I loathe emperors, kings and queens, past and present, all are links of oppression.
ОтветитьAll I know is my tater itches
ОтветитьWasnt there a 1970s movie on caligula which showed his orgy scenes?
ОтветитьCaligula looks like Legolas from LOTR.
ОтветитьPart of me often wonders, in the case of some of these rulers, how much of this is manufactured bullsh*t? I mean, think about it..the Senate was full of sleazy old, rich fks that didn't give a d@mn about anyone outside of their togas, so what's to say they didn't align with these emperors trying to do better for the ppl and the entirety of Rome (therefore becoming beloved and more powerful) so they just had them killed and destroyed/tarnished their legacies with propaganda?
ОтветитьWHY ARE YOU TOUCHING EVERYTHING OML
ОтветитьCaligula was a nice guy
ОтветитьMary Beard is not only an erudite historian, she's a great storyteller.
ОтветитьFantastic documentary
Ответить👋🌻🙂👍🇺🇲🎄🎄🎄
ОтветитьDo you think it was a good idea for the future king to practice on his sisters ? Making it harder for him to murder his competition ? And it sounded like his mother was a great niece. Not as close as King Tut and his half sister.
ОтветитьBest Roman Doc I’ve seen. Mary beard is phenomenal
ОтветитьThis chick is so hot.
ОтветитьThis woman is off putting
ОтветитьAnnoying Lady👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻
ОтветитьBeard cleverly masks her research with a lack of objectivity and contempt for Rome - "...can't get much closer to Rome than a cesspit..." Maybe , you are able to relate with your own personal cesspit. The same ruthless tyrannical maniacs are the ancestors of dear King Charles, difference being Rome's genius is still practiced in our world today.
ОтветитьNo he was a sociopath + Mary you have no beard + L
ОтветитьCoke cola
ОтветитьDARK PASSION!!
ОтветитьNow she is worse then nero, carigula.
ОтветитьAre people forgetting how bad Nero was
ОтветитьThe amount of advertisements within the video are more scary than caligula
Ответить
