I have the problem if trailers flipping when the vehicle I'd parked. I think it's a current bug. I use the trailer flip mod to fix it. Also, to see animals in the animal trailers, go next to the trailer and press V for the radial menu.

I don't know about in game but in real life, chickens do lay eggs without them being fertilised, that's what the eggs you buy at the store are, they just don't hatch without being fertilised.
