So my work laptop uses Microsoft Hyper-V. Would that be considered a Type 1 or Type 2 hypervisor? You mentioned that Hyper-V is used for a Type 1 Hypervisor yet I use Hyper-V through an operating system first

Pretty sloppy of you to not mention the downsides? A virtualized application always runs slower than on a physical host. If the physical host is running beyond its capacity (requiring paging), then ALL of the virtualized applications will feel the slowdown. And lastly, if the physical host crashes or needs downtime for maintenance, ALL virtualized applications are shut down.
