Can you believe people born in the 1860s flew on this plane? They went from sailships, covered wagons, to submarines, cruises, air, and space travel. For 35 years they never thought flying was remotely possible, let alone space travel.
Ответитьthank you the wright brothers for airplanes 🙏
ОтветитьBack when only "Civilized" people could afford to fly!
Now the planes are crowed with dirty hippy types!
So very sad.......
When they said Good bye skippy it sounded like they knew in a way that skippy will die on the way to the end destination 😂
Ответитьno noise or turbulence on planes in 1960! amazing!...😂
ОтветитьWhen air travel was neat.
ОтветитьWe went from this to Spirit Airlines 😂
ОтветитьI flew on a 707 as a kid in the 50's or early 60's. I remember those wonderful meals on real china with metal forks and knifes. I saw how plane travel went from the early days of enjoyable jet travel to mess we have now. I am very glad I don't have to fly for work any longer.
ОтветитьMaybe its just me but there is some weird sense of anachronism here. The modern wide-body aircraft that I associate much more with our current contemporary age and the a lot more old fashion dressed and behaving people in this video. Its a strange mix and almost feels out of place to see a modern craft like this in a time period that feels so much older.
ОтветитьI received several sets of those “junior pilot wings” in the 70s. Still have them, somewhere. 😊
Ответить“Lunch?” That’s a STEAK! Man, air travel has changed (and not for the better!) 😢
ОтветитьI remember I crashed and died on one of these plans back in the day
ОтветитьI wonder if that little dog that guys caring is still around in alive
ОтветитьSure hope Sue and Bob no longer live in San Francisco
ОтветитьLook at those wide seats!!!! 😊
ОтветитьNice video. Best wishes from ❤: Sanjit Dutta. India, West Bengal, Howrah, Ramrajatala.
ОтветитьI must take a stroll up to the lounge and spread a map out on the table next time I'm in cattle class!
ОтветитьBefore unfettered capitalism took over
ОтветитьYou're lucky to get pretzels and maybe a drink if you're lucky
Ответить🙏 Love those era when men were gentlemen & women were ladies , people think of others' safety & comfort! Nowadays with overly selfish , entitled people & terrorism , made our Air Transport experiences much more tiring , restrictive but less friendly! ... 🐕
ОтветитьThats the smoothest landing ive ever seen
ОтветитьSkippy was a milkshake when they landed.
ОтветитьI don't think I've ever been on a long distance flight that cruised at 28000. Was that a common thing in the early years of jet airliners?
ОтветитьOops sorry my last comment I said 707 I meant DC8
ОтветитьWhat a beautiful airplane the Boeing 707 I wish I could see those in flight today now you're only see them in pictures and video maybe a museum if you're lucky
ОтветитьHa, you dont get food like that anymore on US domestic flights. It is sewage but a good video
ОтветитьWay back in 1970, my folks asked me if I’d like an in ground pool installed, or a trip to California to visit family who had moved out west a few years before. Staying in California for a summer of exploring sounded much better to me than a pool that I’d get to use only a few months out of the year. My folks were glad with what I decided. At first, my dad planned to buy a new Ford Country Squire wagon and drive. When mom and dad sat down and figured out how long it would take, the new station wagon was forgotten about. Now we were flying, and I was more than excited about flying the first time. I asked my dad if there was any way we could fly on the new 747. He said he’d find out, and didn’t see why not. My folks came home from the travel agent with bad news. The San Diego airport was too small for the 747 to land, so we’d be flying on a 707, with a stop in Chicago instead. I was disappointed, but still excited about our trip. We’d be leaving the week school was out, and spend the summer of 1971 in Southern California. I couldn’t wait to see my cousins. I thought the trip would never arrive, but before I knew it, my mom was packing my first set of luggage for the trip. My grandfather came by to drive us to the airport the day we left. When we arrived at DTW, we checked in and my folks bought me an American Airlines travel bag. It came time to board, the plane was full. When we settled in our seats, my mom embarrassed me by pointing out where the barf bag was. I could see my grandfather waving to us at the gate as we pulled back. As the 707 taxied back and forth, I thought we’d never take off, then suddenly the engines were revving up, and we were on our way. Then, I barfed. LOL. We landed in Chicago, and stayed seated. Passengers who had connections deplaned, and others boarded. I was o.k. the second take off. I fell asleep, but soon enough my mom woke me to say we were landing. We made our way to the exit and I was surprised there wasn’t a jet way. I remember how bright the lights were, and the strong smell of jet fuel. My aunt and uncle were there to meet us. I was so happy to see them, it had been awhile. We had the best time seeing everything we could, Tijuana to Disneyland. It soon came time for my dad to return for work. My mom and I would stay until the end of August. August came and went, and my mom was packing again. She told me instead of a layover in Chicago, we were switching planes in Los Angeles. I was excited to see another big city from the air. My uncle was late and we almost missed our flight. They had to roll the steps back out to the 727 we were leaving on. We arrive at LAX quickly, my mother was trying to find our new gate, we made it on time. She checked us in and we waited for our flight to arrive. As we sat, a shiny American 747 pulled up to the gate. I think I was in shock. She asked if I was surprised, I just nodded yes. She told me after my dad arrived back home, he made the new travel plans with his agent. I couldn’t wait to board. As we walked through the door, I thought there was no way this thing would leave the ground. Of course I was wrong. We had a great flight, the stewardess gave me a Ritchie Rich comic book which I still have. My mother asked if I could visit the second floor. We were disappointed to learn it was only for 1st class. She did say there was a lounge in the back of the plane. After a while I told my mom I needed to use the restroom, we were told to go all the way back, there were 2 back there. I made my way to the restroom, when I walked through the partition, I was shocked to find a full size lounge with club chairs, mushroom shaped chrome lamps, and a bar with a bartender. I rushed back to tell my mom. She didn’t believe me until I made her come back with me. She was just as surprised. We sat at seats looking out over the Grand Canyon, she sipping a whisky sour, me a Coke. When we landed, we could see my dad at the gate grinning. He asked “what’d you think kiddo?” I told him it was best part of the trip and thanked him for the surprise. My first time flying wasn’t too bad for a 9 year old even though I barfed once.
ОтветитьBack in a time when the Airline treated you like a Human. today they are just like
Cattle Cars. Safer today but not that great experience.
Where are Bob and Sue now?
ОтветитьThose seats were huge, and the legroom, not like on a modern plane.
ОтветитьSkippy was scared shitless. And interesting they called Idewild "New York International Airport".
ОтветитьIt's amazing how many things they get wrong in this film. They don't add oxygen to the air in the cabin, the Captain never calls for clearance to taxi - the First Officer always does that, and nobody wears their hat and jacket in the cockpit. However, it's amazing how the basics haven't changed that much in the last 60 years...
ОтветитьGothic
ОтветитьThe An-225 shared this tail number, no?
ОтветитьLove the way the pilots keep their hats on for the entire trip.
ОтветитьLook at those armrests, they are like twice the size of today. And a lounge?! Oh man.
ОтветитьSam chui 's vlogs in 1961
ОтветитьAll that space, comfortable seats, real food. Ah, yes, those were the days. We’ve come so far . . .
ОтветитьLife and people were so damn different back then. Crazy
Ответитьno pushback, taxi by pilot decration.
ОтветитьThe golden days
ОтветитьOh God, I have deep memories and a little melancholy memory of that. For children is a flash of joy and a mind-opening and opening experience as it was for me too.
Ответитьwas a great source of comfort when the non-smoking sign went off -- and everyone would light up and relax !!!!
ОтветитьDefinitely not the meatwagons of today
