You know your creative team is the top of the line when they develop a story and characters so captivating that they make a group of people who started playing a game for the sheer of enjoyment of killing enemies with a chainsaw machine gun shed tears over the death of a character. Bravo

The older I get, the harder this scene hits

There hasn’t been a moment in a game to me with this much buildup for a crushing defeat. We have been right there with Dom this whole time and felt this exact moment with him. Marcus really is the strongest friend he could’ve asked for, someone who has been fearing a scenario like this every single day and knows what it’s like. Gears gets a bad rep for popularizing the grey war aesthetic, but it was one of the best to utilize it for moments like this.

If this means anything I played every single verse to this even the less fortunate ones…I have become very little int this world…just the memories of these brings me back to life for the moment…they say walking dead is easy.. but no one mentions the wondering pain.

even in 2023 Gears of war 2 had the best human emotion in their scenes so tragic and human

when i first played this, I thought oh jarheads badass motherfuckers shootin aliens, then this happenend and I was like WTF emotion, god damn but it works so well and we will never forget this

Chilling scene. Wouldn't it have been better if Dom had shot Maria though? I feel like it'd be better having your friend do it, rather than knowing you pulled the trigger. Even if it's for euthanization.

I first saw this scene when I was 12, I didn't know what the hell was happening... but oh man... this game is on a whole new level

Gears of war 2 in my opinion is a dam good game

The original language has much feeling, but the Latin Spanish, damn! Personal, 100 times better

What breaks me, is the shot of Marcus getting Dom’s attention before the reveal, what he see’s that Dom doesn’t, knowing what Maria looks like and having to bring Dom back to reality, such a powerful split second moment, to an even bigger scene. This really pulls the heart strings and still breaks my heart to this day.

It's mad to think that Dom goes through the 5 stages of death in about 2 minutes flat.
Part 1: Denial. He see's Maria not as she is, as she was. This is Doms brain shielding him from the truth.
Part 2: Anger. He enters this phase when he see's her ravaged body, Dom exclaims "No, No, No, No!"
Part 3: Bargaining. Easily the hardest to watch as it reduces the person to their lowest, When he states "I Don't know what to do, Man! I don't know what to do?!" Whilst looking at Marcus for something, Anything...
Part 4: Depression. Dom enters this state when he realises that nothing he can do can bring her back, again this is hard to watch as he states "I'm so sorry Maria, I Love you so much" followed by his cries of anguish.
Part 5: Acceptance, You all know the part....

I met Dom's voice actor, Carlos Ferro, at comic con last year where I live and he told me about the story of how they recorded this scene in particular. He said they turned off most of the lights that they could and he was on his knees with a dummy in his hands playing out the emotional scene for effect. He was in tears like Dom was and the people on the motion capture set were all in tears as well, with extra people having coming in specifically to watch this scene in particular.

As a younger brother I was always made to play as Dom when we did the co-op campaign as a kid so Dom became my favourite character. RIP Maria and Dom.

Idk how this didn’t traumatize me as a kid, I find this way more fucked up as an adult watching this.

Im on my xbox X replaying gears trilogy im 30 replaying my childhood shit still hits. That part when dom says marcus idk what to do man tears man just tears... then i kill as much as i can..

This is really where Dom took a turn. Everything he searched for came to this moment of loss. His happiness of finding the love of his life fell short when the realization set in that she was tortured for god knows how long.

These two guys find their way through all sorts of situations. They fight through hell, and never once do they feel lost. There is always a next step. Some place to go. Someone to find. Something to kill.
