wtf is this book series

I heard that people compared Dune to Tolkien's work and I expected to be surprised. What is this shit??? Was he drunk when he wrote it?

I thought about reading Dune, and then I read the plot summary of Dune sequels and I'm so glad I did. This series sounds like a pile of hot garbage. Anything with so many sequels should be highly suspect.

It’s crazy how the religion of dune was basically false flagged into existence, the puppeteers lost control, were destroyed, leaving no one behind the curtain to shape myth, legend, or to guide the course of history, and yet the religion carried on to wreak havoc on the universe.

Actually pretty realistic.

Hmm, I was intent on reading all 6 books, but after watching this, I'm not so sure. Definitely 1 and 2, maybe 3 just to conclude the Atreides familly saga, but the last 3 sound like weird fever dreams that go off the rails a tad too much for my taste.

The whole series now extends to 18-20 books. The books by his son and Phillip K Dick, (I believe) are a must-read if you liked the first 6 books.

Think Duncan mightve been Bevs favorite character and why Frank brought him back and made him so much more integral throughout the whole story in the subsequent books.

Dune was never meant to have an end per se. Atleast by a human author. It's more than a story, a series. It's humanity at it's finest and lowest. How could someone put an end to that??? To end it, humanity needs to die out. And believe it or not, I've always had Leto II's mentality as a child. I've always done what needs to be done regardless of what/how it affects me. More often than not I've had regrets about doing it but regardless I would still do the same. And that belief had only gained solidarity once I read Book 4. It's for that reason I couldn't stand Paul who for his own selfish reasons decided to be a coward.

P.S. I do whole heartedly believe that humanity needs an overly powerful oppressor to bring us together. Humanity has such hope but we are our own worst enemies and the only thing that can dimish that difference is an oppressor.

I loved LOVED the first book but reading the other books was frustrating i hated the sequals. Paul was too great to be defeated like that. A mentat and a seed far greater than the Kwisatz Haderach the Bene Gesserit dreamed of. And his sister could not have been haunted by the baron that didn't make sense. She was a born reverend mother. She had no male aspect memories. And the Baron died after she was born, she killed him in fact. The baron even though an ancestor had no connection education or training in that regard. It also didn't make sense for the Jihad to spread killing billions because those on Arrakas where addicted to the spice and would die without it. And guild transport was too expensive and with Paul as emperor on Arrakas he would have had to finance it. My opinion is that as a writer the first book was so amazing he never was able to follow up as well. He may have spent far greater a time and been far more inspired writing it. Things in the sequals seem to contradict the first book. Like it seems as though it wasn't even the same author. I don't know why he changed directions.

I've watched a couple of these! Videos so far and apparently they were reading a different book than I read because the entire book Paul is faced with an impossible decision. He knows that stuff is going to happen there's no way out of it so he picks the lesser of all the evils he never once got caught up in his own jihad never never once in there did he fall in love with it he always knew that he was trying to take the lesser of two evil paths. An impossible decision a good person faced with impossible odds

Read all the books. Great story!
fucking terrible philosophy. This idea that religion always leads to destruction flies in the face of all human history.
I truly don't think religion is a cause of war, simply was an excuse with people at a certain time (medieval civilization) to purge others that stood in the way of resources. Religion gives hope and guidance to a vast majority of people and allows them to carry on.
I only say this because people in the past have used dune as an example of what the potential of religious zealotry is but it's just a book f on a single author who has his own experiences and life opinions

Now that I know the whole story it's no wonder that the first book is the only book that gets adapted by Hollywood. They take the popular book in skimp out on the diversity of ideas. Hopefully they change that with this next iteration of adaptations.
