The Noise difference between a Boeing 707 and a Boeing 787 (Additional Video)

Honestly, I understand why things have evolved the way they have. I absolutely love the sound of an epic pair of jet engines…the old jt8d models and rb211s are some of the coolest sounding machines ever devised. The way they used to take off and rumble the entire landscape on climb out left a huge impression on me as a kid. But that comes at a cost to society. If you live near an airport, life is a lot more chaotic with loud jet engines. So you can’t really complain…quieter, more efficient engines have made life better for people by every possible metric.

They need to change the name of the company to Boring !! for there is nothing built after the 747 that is any good ! God what a heavenly sound those JT3D's make ! I want to go for a ride in a 707 !

The 707 sure was a great sounding and noisy thing weren't it! But just think though just one of those Rolls Royce Trent engines on that 787 is about 3 times more powerful than all 4 of those 707s engines combined!

Well, to be honest, not only the sound is better in a Boeing 787 Dreamliner but the pollution is horrible talking about the B-707.

707 shown in video has the much quieter turbofans. The sound seems like it was added to video and not real time. I know for a fact the JT3Ds (shown in video) are not that loud; now the JT4As and JT3Cs sound like that. Guess either way, the 707 is a lot louder than the 787.

To everyone saying they prefer the 707: yeah, it sounds epic at an air show, but imagine living in the proximity of an airport with this kind of ambient noise level.

707 take off sound is the better !
Actually modern aviation with hi by pass turbo fans is boring, no noise.

Noise Abatement??? HA! We're gonna get there loud and fast, and pollute everything on the way!

The 707 just sounds glorious...as did the Mad Dogs...and the 727...and the 737-200...you get the point.
On the other hand, the power put out by current twin jets is pretty damn cool, too. Hearing a 777 spool up is still pretty rad.

I love the 787 for many reasons however the 707 has the nostalgia of what flying is all about.
