Jethro Tull falls into a genre broadly referred to as progressive rock, a style open to many musical i fluences.
ОтветитьI loved the way he passed it off to the band on the guitar solo. Ian Anderson is an unselfish genius.
ОтветитьThis is the very first rock song I can remember really liking.., I was eight 🥰
ОтветитьWow, really enjoyed your immensely thoughtful and appreciative take on this vocal performance. Your enthusiasm for what you're doing really shows through, and is so engaging. Thank you!
ОтветитьPoor Julia was fighting for her life trying to stay composed and collected during Ian's antics 😅😂
ОтветитьIn certain sections of the song, Ian hits the reverb button with his foot to give his vocals a harmonizing effect.
ОтветитьLucky you. You stumbled upon the most amazing prog rock band in history. Your deep thought in analyzing is superb and spot on. I just turned 70, still shake my head.
Thank you for your time.
En la parte acústica, utiliza un chorus o efecto de retardo para el micrófono.Lo activa con el pie igual que un efecto de guitarra
ОтветитьFairly typical JT live. Extending the surreal theatre - try 'A Passion Play', 40mins one 'song', so not for the faint of heart, but incredibly engaging. Have fun!
ОтветитьJethro Tull is unique and excellent. Stunning
ОтветитьA true Bard!
ОтветитьIA isn't completely on form here - he had some sort of chest infection/flu. So that may explain his vocals?
Ответитьsound sucks compared tpo the actual song from the album
Ответитьi NEVER listen to someone that does some live thing for a virgin listen to a classic NEVER in those years you heard the real song ONLY AND THE STUDIO IS WHAT MADE ALL ALL ALL OF THESE CLASSICS FAMOUS LEGENDARY THERE WERE NO DAMN VIDEOS NONE NO DISTRACTION and to get the perspective ALWAYS STUDIO FIRST ALWAYS OR ELSE YOU ARE NOT NOT NOT HEARING WHAT WE HEARD WHAT MADE IT FAMOUS IN THE FIRST PLACE AND YOU COMPLETELY LOSE THE PERSPECTIVE WHEN YOU GET TO THE LIVE AFTER!!! TO DO ANY OTHER WAY IS MISLEADING
ОтветитьRe: R&B - Jethro Tull started recording in 1968-69, and at that time were doing a lot more bluesy numbers. Some of that is there throughout their career (1968-2012), but they are seriously just all over the place stylistically. Ian Anderson once said "we're just a bloody loud folk band"... but also wrote and sang some wonderful, romantic ballads in the 70's and 80's. They had their time with English folk music, hard rock, synthesizers, blues, long concept albums with all sorts of sound effects, and more. Over 250 songs as a band. Just a treasure trove of music... I can't even begin to understand it from a vocal coach's perspective. I saw them 14 times in concert, but have just as much enjoyed them through the headphones, listening to favorite sections over and over again. Dedicated amateur fan here...
ОтветитьIt's not mean to be "highly comedic" - though a lot of live performances in the 1970's definitely look that way now! The dizzying tempo changes are classic Jethro Tull, dropping in and out of various moods and voices. One of the reasons I love them so much. :) Thank you so much for this review!
ОтветитьUnsubscribed
ОтветитьDon't interrupt so much !
ОтветитьIan Anderson has been and is still referred to as THE BARD.
ОтветитьIan having fun with Acid Rock!!! Thank you for this clip and the great vocal description.
ОтветитьJethro Tull is the name of the band, the man in the front is Ian Anderson!!😊
ОтветитьAt this same performance he does "Thick as a Brick" & "Locomotive Breath" which are just as entertaining and you see his extraordinary flute playing!! Quite a character and believe it or not, never on drugs or alcohol! 🤗
ОтветитьHe steps on something which gives his voice an echo like distant effect, it's on the album that way too!
ОтветитьBrilliant reaction to a fantastic band. Ian Anderson is a musical genius, fantastic lyricist, and the ultimate performing minstrel.
As for your reaction, well that was a pure joy to see and hear too. So much beauty in one girl. ❤
If Robin Hood had a band…this would be it.
ОтветитьThe song itself is from two perspectives. The perspective of fear of a dirty old beggar, as he eyes the pretty girls. But then Ian changes the perspective to someone who knows the old man, that he lives in pain, eats at the Salvation Army and knows he is just afraid. Very intense.
ОтветитьDO you Know what's is he talking about?? very important!!
ОтветитьWhen he says "he bends to pick a dog end", he means that he picks up a discarded cigarette butt to smoke. Not that he picks at a dog's butthole. I mean, he's a pervert, but not THAT much of a pervert, lol.
ОтветитьAnother BIG song for the band Jethro Tull was "Locomotive Breath". It has a great guitar riff in the opening!!! Enjoy!!!!!!!! As for his playing... For the most part he is self taught!!!! And that alone makes it even better!!!! TAKE CARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ОтветитьJulia,
The weather is changing here in the hills of West Virginia. So my nose has been running. Each time I think of the line --"Snot running down his nose." And the guitar riff in this song is very well known. Sorta like the drum line of in the Air Tonight by Phil Collins. Jethro Tull was/is a darn good band!! I agree with you that Ian is a bard! He is a master entertainer!!! Take care and happy New Year!
Oh Yeah there is one huge element in their performances not utilized in this song ;)
ОтветитьIf you can't understand the lyrics, look them up, and look up any phrases you might not understand and read along as he sings. Understand that the fast paced rock section talks of how society sees a homeless man with a lung disease (an aqualung). The slower part is how a homeless Aqualung's life actually is. Ian Anderson was known to sing and write of the downtrodden.
ОтветитьRegarding the delay effect on his vocal in the acoustic section, if you watch the slightly faded image on the top left from the distant camera you’ll see Ian press a pedal by his mic stand that activates the delay effect. You can also see him shut it off after the “de dee de de de dee Dee” bit
ОтветитьSo good to hear your r k eaction on a masterpieces
ОтветитьYou should try out Minstral in the Gallery
ОтветитьI'm sure you've found out since watching it but it was called a "doubling" effect.
ОтветитьThe musicians you just witnessed are the most amazing people.,John Evans,Barrymore Barlow,John Glasscock, Martin Lancelot Barrie, and the singer Ian Scott Anderson….the best of the best
ОтветитьWatch his foot as he introduces the delay sequenece.
ОтветитьJulie ha I just watched your J Tull amusing o was about homeless but his still if u look comes from like the rentasonc time u know kings kinghts fries an the jester watch his poses an storyteller
ОтветитьJulia prepare yourself --- Ian is a trip!!!! The man can play several different instruments. Most of them self-taught!!! For decades I thought Ian was higher than a Georgia Pine Tree.... NO, I have learned he is "anti-dope"... He is a master performer!!! My favorite Ian Anderson quote is he was asked why a flute. Ian told them it is easier to carry than a piano! Witty........ This was a great time to be alive!!!! SO many great bands!!!!
May I suggest you locate and review Tull's song "Mt God"!! Jethro Tull was a good band!!!! Have fun with it!!!!!!
Beautiful! 🥳, i recommend emerson lake & palmer, fanfare for the common man
ОтветитьCheck out Cross eyed Mary.
ОтветитьCheck out J T's God or almost all they have done.
ОтветитьCross Eyed Mary because of the flute..
ОтветитьListen to an interview with Ian Anderson. You will fall off you chair
ОтветитьYour recording is second hand. Ian Anderson is a gentleman and a poet. You should really do your homework. Aqualung is a tragic character created by mankind.
ОтветитьI examine this from lyric and style. This may make more sense if you understand if you examine the fact that he is describing two views of the same person. One view is a general view of society and the second from the POV of someone who knows the person in a deeper value. Very diverse in all their music. I've been a huge fan since the mid 70's
ОтветитьWhere is the flute ???
Ответить
