Stanley Myers' Cavatina was used as the theme for the big box-office film the Deer Hunter and the Shadows had a no. 9 hit with it in 1979.

Geeks, Nerds and Anoraks Corner.

For this one I teamed up with my old musical pal, fellow reprobate, Shads enthusiast and well-known Wirral folk musician Maurice Pursell. Pete Seeger once said of him "who?" Apparently Hank Marvin once said the same of me!!!
Maurice used his museum piece for the arpeggio rhythm - a 1968 Levin Goliath LN26. I took a photo through the sound hole of the label for those guitar historians amongst us and it can be seen in the video. Also Maurice used Martin Retro Monel wound 12-54 gauge strings and he swears blind (he does that alot!) that they gave his trusty Levin a new lease of life. Again these can be seen in the video. They are classed as light gauge, so I wouldn't fancy using their heavy ones! A small amount of reverb was added to the rhythm. We used Maurice's Behringer B1 condenser microphone.

Me, I just used my trusty Squier Strat fitted with 10 gauge Elixirs to facilitate string bending, bridge pickup with just a little treble dialled off, through the Hall and Collins Echo patch 38, into the Tascam DP 24 recorder with stereo echoes. These stereo echoes are becoming standard for me and they can be heard through headphones. I try to match the timing of the echo repeats with those of the particular patch I am using on the H & C, it creates a lovely effect. The swells are from a Boss FV50L pedal.

The backing track is from Dave Robinson's Do You Wanna Be Hank and Bruce? series.

I hope you enjoy, we had a load of laughs recording it!
