How Do Graphics Drivers Improve Game Performance?

Who else is here after updating their drivers? 😂

Until now i had not updated my drivers since 5 years on accident

For those who Nvidia, and thought your graphic card is up to date try check again. But don't use Device manager to search the update.
Check your current version, then google it and search what the latest version. You'll be surprise how outdated your graphic card is.
To check, right click and open Nvidia control panel then click system information. There you will see your driver current version.


Like mine, for many years I thought my graphic card is up to date, because every time I scan the update by using device manager, I always got "the driver is up to date" Until recently, I play Fire Emblem 3 Houses using Yuzu. When I tried to change the API to Vulkan I got error saying "Your driver is outdated"
Only then I realise my graphic card has been outdated for 3 years.
Before I play the game barely stable 30fps. Now it was 40-50 fps.

for me older graphic drivers work better

Could AMD spend more money on drivers to get the same results as NVIDIA, or does Nvidia just have Superior coders and too much money to spend on drivers ? I wonder where it is that AMD is lacking.

What if I still have windows xp? Will updating my drivers make my games no longer function?

i have a rx 580, i've tested my fps and how stable it will be with and without the amd raedon software.
tbh there wasn't much of a difference in the games i tested.
there was only about a 5-15 fps difference.
however, having the amd software could benefit u by,
adjusting and changing ur screen and oc.
also u can record ur screen.
but ngl it doesnt really matter if u have the software installed or uninstalled.
just try them both and c which one benefits ur pc.
everyones pc is different.

Everytime I update my gpu drivers the game performance is improved by -5fps
That's why I'm using a driver from 2017, it gives more 40fps in every game compared to the newest ones.

My biggest problem is when drivers are used as marketing. Just look at the bloated travesty that is GeForce Experience. It should be possible to grab the drivers on a per-application/game basis, but no... GeForce Experience has to download and install everything in one huge hit, and then wants the machine restarted. If the driver update doesn't crash or stall in the first place. No wonder people don't want to update their drivers.

I used to have gt 710 as my GPU and I wanted to play GTA V . I got very few fps even on low settings

But after updating my GPU driver it ran somewhat smoother

I am using 8 gb ram laptop ...I also get 60+ fps in some games but while recording it lags and drops under 20 fps...how to fix it? I use fraps or dxtorym.obs....nothing helping

I've seen major boost in Need for Speed: 2015, Need for Speed: Payback, and Far Cry 5. Quite impressive actually.

I don't auto update sometimes because updating my driver causes so many problems and some games not even running!!!

But why do I not have the fast sync option even if I have the latest driver and generation of GPUs?
