The use of petroleum products on the soil kill it. Man has farmed fertilizing with manures and green manures and managed to keep humanity fed. We need to move away from this sort of earth management. grass lawns are not good for the planet either. Please look into regenerative farming and sustainable farming.

maybe you do save a little bit of water, but the water you do use ends up polluted with unknown amounts of nutrients in it and has to be disposed of somewhere. That means it also does not return to the environment. Hydroponics needs a lot of work, and it is not a closed system yet.

last i heard about hydroponics was that it was super expensive. more in comparison than a farm.

Hydroponics is also complete bs. The produce doesn't have any taste, and it's purely unnatural. Organic local farming is the way to go.

Intensive multi-crop farming is much more profitable, but hard to automate.
