Wait what? Wordpad could open “doc” files?! Last time I used it on Win ME it could only open and save rtf.
ОтветитьWhat you mean windows gaming os? I run linux and proton runs almost everything. It even runs old windows games better than windows ( I've got a few games from my childhood, that refuse to work on current day windows, but just simply run on linux without issue). Theres almost no reason to bother with windows.
ОтветитьI can send you wordpad, exe if you need it on Windows 11 😂
ОтветитьI love the joke in the last minute
ОтветитьMicrosoft Works anyone?
ОтветитьMicroshit strikes again
ОтветитьMS just doing same like ever since Windows Vista: Remove and change what people like and use, replace it by utter, pricey and resource huggig garbage. Keep the bad parts.
ОтветитьBefore WordPad, we used to get Microsoft Write free with Windows. I used it to do my book reports at school. It could even justify paragraphs unlike WordPad.
Ответитьwell, back in the day, it was either "edit" in dos or notepad......if you needed to type something word perfect or word....
or Works....it was and is so unecessary
also my linux teacher 20 years ago tried to foist VI on us......I hate that program so much and I am running linux as my OS
We can program in Fortran too but we don't.
I have never paid for an office product and used open then libra office, many years ago. I don't think they should take the stuff away, I use ClassicShell on all my windows computers.
Whats keeping me on windows is (outlook) email, saves me signing in, which I need for school, and the school makes it harder to sign in (so its very convenient. Schools around the world are beholden to Microsoft. That's whats keeping them alive.
ОтветитьAt least they are removing that annoying Cortana assistent too
ОтветитьI'm pretty sure that Wordpad is just a single .exe file so it could easily just be copied over to a new version of Windows. If not, I'm sure someone will find a way to make it portable.
ОтветитьInterestingly enough, your channel got me much more curious about Linux back in 2021, and I've been using Fedora as my daily driver since 2022. I have Windows for games and literally nothing else. My laptop with Fedora gets used a lot more.
Point being, I'm so happy this isn't a problem and likely to be much less of one in the Linux landscape.
Not to be too sappy, but I have you to thank for that. Started with Ubuntu (like most), switched to Fedora, and also teaching myself Kali on the side via VM.
Big Tech is literally trying to remove ownership so people have to rely on them as services.
This is just another brick removed in that wall between consumer autonomy and the provider.
anyone remember how many .rtf vulns there were at one point (mid-2000s) ?
ОтветитьI have an old laptop that only has Wordpad, but it was enough to perform simple tasks with preexisting Word documents. A very nice programm!
ОтветитьMicrosoft really went overboard with Windows 11.
ОтветитьPages on ipad
ОтветитьHot take: Just to be clear I'm not a Microsoft fan. correct me if I'm wrong I don't find anything wrong with removing wordpad nobody uses it. I think wordpad was kinda useless just like the legacy media player in windows 11 is.
ОтветитьYou have crappy handwriting cause you cba to practice your handwriting . It's like prayer flicking you just gotta do it till you can do it.
ОтветитьI'd also prefer for WordPad to continue. I don't think it's true to say that "WordPad doesn't have security issues," though. If a hacker can trick a user into opening a WordPad file, then WordPad is part of the attack surface, and it will require security-related maintenance, testing, auditing, etc.
I have no idea if that's a factor in Microsoft's decision.
I still use wordpad today damn
ОтветитьWord 365 has demons running all through it.
ОтветитьI've been using Wordpad for my document lists since my initial Word sub expired in mid-2022. It works for what iIneed it for so far, but has some serious limitations. It does not format properly for printing, and more importantly, no option for alphabetizing lists like in Word. I continuously debate whether to reactivate Word, as almost all my docs prior to sup expiration are Word. I can still open Word files, but can't even copy from them now. I also miss the old MS Photo Editor program that was available thru Windows XP. Had a very precise cut/copy-and-paste feature, and a great smudge feature for specific parts/areas of photos. I was lucky to put some copies on flash drives, but they will not open on Windows 8 on up because the registry cannot pin down the program location.
ОтветитьWell, LibreOffice is better anyway
ОтветитьThis will definitely affect me when/if I go to the library to use their computer/printer. RTF was my go to format when changing between computers.
ОтветитьWhat are the best options for a Linux friendly tablet/laptop hybrid.
ОтветитьIf you were around for XP (~2006), why weren't you using Open Office (~2002) which was free?
There are several good and free RTF editors for windoze out there like Qjot, Abiword, and Jarte. Microshart Orifice can import their files when you're ready to do a final version.
LibreOffice and Google Docs are good enough alternatives to make WordPad obsolete IMO.
ОтветитьThe first half of this video could have been solved by "File, Save As, (select compatible format for home computer)" or by installing LibreOffice.
ОтветитьLibreoffice is better than wordpad and Stix Two Text should replace times new roman.
ОтветитьNotepad++ is one of the best, and i will take no arguments to the contrary
Ответитьand this is why i jumped ship to team penguin
ОтветитьIf an operating system doesn't have a word editor then what does it have?
ОтветитьI swear Microsoft is getting stupid with the redundant removal of programs and other things that still works and we are familiar with. Similar to your story, I remember a ton of times where Wordpad saved me from a ton of school and work related papers mere hours in to my deadline. It's still my to go to text editor to this day. Idk what's going on inside the Microsoft's thinking but clearly they didn't hear the saying "if it ain't broke don't fix it" smfh.
ОтветитьI don't use wordpad, becuase I have a perpetual office 2019 home & student license, but my dad uses it because he doesn't want to pay for office. I only use word for doing writing, I just use Jetbrains IDEs for whatever language I program in, and I have notepad++ for .txt files and all text besides code or .docx. But I don't want wordpad to go, I use the good paint (not 3d) for all image files, and windows media player for all videos and audio that works on it. I also like to install windows live 2012 on all my computers. I don't get why they don't make a webapp version of word online or the whole office online for windows. It would be like new outlook, its actually just edge web browser masquading as an outlook program.
ОтветитьTbf, who even uses it?
People who don't want to buy MS Office get Libreoffice, which is the same thing but somewhat functional. Nobody uses Wordpad.
I only use notepad. Don't get why Sticky Notes exists either.
The same thing happened to Hyper-terminal. But somebody hacked it and you can download versions that even work on Win11. I expect the same will happen with Wordpad.
ОтветитьEmacs was part of Amiga OS 1.3 i still cannont uderstand that editor :D
ОтветитьWord is WAY too big 😒 Wordpad is handy. Switched to a simple program that was close to Wordpad, free and with a sensible selection of (extra) features. Had it and the texts I needed on a USB thingy. Very practical 😊
ОтветитьAs long as programs "just work" on Windows, as long as installing programs is just "click next install", Linux will never win. Don't fool yourselves. Linux sucks for casual use.
ОтветитьWhen I was about 11, I burned an office97/98 folder onto my CD, not knowing that I was pirating it, because we didn't learn about software piracy at school. It worked as it was, some features were not fully functional, but I finally had an option to do my homework at home without having to stay in town and visit a library and spend my whole afternoon there (waiting for an hour for a bus and getting home after 5pm).
ОтветитьAlthough everyone and their cats I know immediately switch to Notepad++, this is still an L for Microsoft
ОтветитьI still use Wordpad for my university assignments because MS Word is filled with annoying gimmicks and features I don't want to use but are forced on me anyway.
ОтветитьRip Windows Now you've just an OSS (Online-Subscription Software). Sad Times
ОтветитьWhat about companies and AD? Seems like you can simply replace clients at home, but what about an enterprise environment?
ОтветитьComputers have been getting worse.
ОтветитьSeeing that LimeWire logo gave me some PTSD
ОтветитьWord
As has been my goto rich text editor for decades. Sad to see it go.
Someone tell this man bout Google Docs
