Never a huge Springsteen fan growing up, unlike the majority of my pals back then, but this song was one of my favorite songs EVER! Still is! Feels like body surfing a wave, having it crash on you and leaving you breathless back on the beach.

I'm not a confirmed Springsteen fan, but I like him. I've always liked this song here, but this is the best live version I've ever heard. Full of energy and anger that you usually only hear in early Clash songs.

Still my favorite Springsteen tune, since 1978 ish, first time I heard it.

I’m not going to inject a bunch of BS here; ascribing a bunch of “meaning” to E and Bm chords, strung together loudly whilst the musicians make faces & grunt as if they were lifting heavy weights (with not very much originality , I might add).

What I will say is that these lyrics are brilliant - they are sad, sexy & filled with rage; simultaneously. They are deeply moving.

Now, if he’d just learn to play guitar & forsake Socialism he’d be my hero.
