Inside Juvenile Detention

I would love to work back in a detention center forbthe youths I worked in delaware in a detention center being a role model to the young youths.

Coming from 2023, this boy is hopefully out now. He deserves nothing but love, happiness and support!

I live in Norfolk, Virginia and I find it absolutely ridiculous that there is so much money lying around here and nobody is helping the youth. My peers are in and out of juvie and it's normal. This area needs help and it has for a long, long time. I am only 15 and I understand how dangerous and scary it is to go to school here.

I have zero sympathy for juvenile offenders who commit crimes like murder. Supreme Court ruled that life without parole is unconstitutional, so many, who deserve death or life in prison, get to live and even get out earlier than adults who commit the same crime. Sit there, take advantage of programs, and learn your lesson.

what steps would needed to be taken for change to happen far as having facilities in the areas these kids come from in virginia?

It's infuriating how the comments say how talented and nice he is and all and completely ignore the victim. He freakin MURDERED someone. He ought to be put away for much longer than until age 21. His "sentence" is a mockery of the victim.

That kid will have an amazing career as an artist when he gets out. He has so much potential.

Let's be honest some of them cannot be re-educated. Crime is in their blood. Second degree murder is no laughing matter

These documentaries never show what really goes on in these places...the "guards" are worse than the convicts in most cases and it is a gladiator school...alot of extortion, abuse, and bullying isnt a strong enough word for how the weaker inmates are treated...

Jail,prison or juvenile hall isnt supposed to be like a hilton hotel

How about have poor contractors and parents get 50% of the contracts for construction, repair, tv purchases. That would cut back on poverty and less kids would be in jail.

Judging by the looks of these kids they have it much better in juvi than they do at home. Nobody to beat them, there's people there to take care of them, they always have food, people make sure they attend school.

CHEMICAL CASTRATION .... This should be automatic when a JUVI enters a detention facility.
I believe in DNA ... DO NOT LET THESE IDIOTS leave the jail "un-castrated" .... They will make babies that WILL follow their dad's footsteps.

I'm from Portsmouth VA and currently studying to be an academic teacher for the youth. It is an extremely rough area where kids don't get presented many opportunities to break the statistic.

What a joke . He's 19 and called a Juvenile ? At 18 you can go to the military and go to war yet you cannot buy liquor or go to adult prison until 21 ? It used to be 18 years old you were considered an adult but democrats what to keep people stupid !

Naw man don't do the shit the criminals want you to do. Make your facilities wherever you want. They are inmates aka convicted criminals, not your friends.

Being separate from "the hood" is not such a bad thing. It gets them away from the drama and allows them to know there is something quieter and better ..somewhere else....

I was in bon air and Beaumont 05 to 08. at the time the COs said it was rougher then most prisons in va at that time. shit was really gladiator school

Its not the only facility in virginia. I was just in and out of blue ridge detention today.

Bon Air? Back in the mid 70's it was for bad girls, the boys went to Beaumont Learning Center.. I was In Beaumont for 9 months when I was 16...What happened to Beaumont?

You have to make communities law abiding thru consistent examples of working, supporting each other and honoring each other and your parents even if you don't like them honor them.
