BRUTALLY HONEST | Tokyo Haneda to Los Angeles in ECONOMY aboard DELTA's Airbus A330-900neo!

I flew Delta between Seattle and Tokyo Haneda in September 2023, traveling from Portland Oregon. Delta always impresses me when it comes to customer service whether domestic or international. Unfortunately, Delta completely dropped the Portland-Haneda nonstop flights and sold the Haneda spot to United for them to use it for Haneda-Honolulu flights, however might return due to Alaska-Hawaiian merger.

@simplyaviation - did this flight use reverse thrust upon landing in Los Angeles?

Excellent video. I agree since the pandemic delta has been doing some noticeable cost cutting especially in economy class when it comes to catering. Other airlines such as UA & AA give substantial more food in economy then delta such as a bread roll cheese with crackers. It's unfortunate because if they had continued their practices from where they left in early 2020 they would definitely have been the best of the best. Now it's just basic as you mentioned and would only fly Delta if the price is right.

Would you fly on Delta or Japan Airlines?

On my next inter-continental flight I have to nick an amenity kit from business or first class during disembarking when the crew isn't looking.

I could careless about the food all I care is being on time reliability I always pass on food I will eat a nice restaurant when I get to my destination.

I live in Seattle but I grew up in Western Japan(Shikoku) so our family's preferred route was Osaka KIX-SEA, which was operated by NWA, and that's why I mainly fly with Delta on US/JP.

I flew to Japan twice post pandemic. SEA-HND and back with DL for personal trip 2022. SEA-LAX-KIX with Alaska and JAL for business 2023(and took dayoffs to visit family). All Economy seating.

Overall DL was great and I still prefer them but JAL had THE best meal and services I ever had.
I absolutely hated LAX's long walk and over complicated transit through constructions.
HND is super convenient to use with abundance of domestic flight options or even access to shinkansen from Shinagawa.
NRT is bit too far away from Tokyo-Metro area but still usable and good option if tickets are cheep and you're familiar with Japanese.
KIX is and will always be my preferred choice but DL still hasn't reinstated US flight and JAL's LAX flight lands around 7pm so unless you're staying in Osaka-Metro area, domestic transit will be a bit of issue.

I long for the day Delta reinstates SEA-KIX direct flights... I really need them back...

I must say, I have been quite disappointed by the food service in the economy from Delta… I by no means asking for a full-on course meal in economy, but the food portion is rather small, and the breakfast is just a single snack.

They have a snack cart for economy??? Wow!! And that meal service presentation wow!!

Delta's Portland <-> Haneda route has been DROPPED.

I guess when you fly Economy you can't expect any more than a "Basic" experience. Not sure they are any airlines left that provide more than a Basic service in long haul economy

I flew delta Santiago-Atlanta-Haneda on March on economy. Santiago-Atlanta planes were great but the Atlanta-Haneda planes had tape on the floor and were super old 😣 I am grateful for the free wifi for texting tho but I'm surprised they still have old looking planes for long flights.

I once flew Tokyo to SFO on Northwest Airlines. They used to fly 747s. I think Delta service on economy class is much better than United.

Delta planes usually have seat features like adjustable tray tables and adjustable IFE Screenes,this plane just wasn't equipped with that..idk why

Los Not Las Angeles

I have been flying through Narita / Tokyo since 1987. Family and I flew to Haneda on Delta last month (transferred to another country).
Flight was pretty bad. Flight attendants barely put in any effort. Food was hideous. I was at the back and the only had one choice left and it was hideous. I told the flight attendant that is not food and I only eat food. Her face kind of agreed with me.
- The return was a bit better. Food was edible but we had ordered a special meal.
- When we booked the flight there were many lounges that took Priority Pass at Haneda but when we flew all but one had stopped PP. And it was a hideous lounge (TAIT Lounge). I can't emphasis enough how dirty the place was. The carpet hadn't been cleaned in many, many years. I have never seen anything this dirty in japan ever. Even the streets are cleaner. And the food, etc. was also hideous. I tried to get in the Delta lounge as I had flown in to Haneda on business class but I was on a code share flight so no go.
- Earlier in the year I had flown several domestic Delta flights and they were great. Something happened during the Pandemic. Maybe all of the crappy attendants took their buyouts and left. So I expected more on the Tokyo flights. Since Delta has a seniority system the attendants that have been flying the longest get to choose their routes first. And the long haul routes are very popular as you get so many hours for so few flight. So the attendants have been at it for 30+ years and it shows in their attitudes.

Your reviews make me very nostalgic. I lived in Tokyo from 1967-68 and then again June 1969-71 going to Haneda Airport frequently. I then returned to the US and worked for the first wholesale tour company selling group tours to Asia initially using Northwest Orient Airlines (as it was called then). Over the years I've flown more than 20 million miles and now hold Delta Silver medallion status for life as a million miler. UA 3 million miler and AA almost 5 million miler. I've see it all and your video reminded me of a part of it. Thank you!!

I don’t need a menu card. Just tell me the choices, flying economy is not on my lists of nice service. Also menu cards are a one time use and cost money and trees, a real waste. Put the menu in the IFR.
