A few of my favourite Heist movies are
Foolproof: A group of friends who get together to plan heists but never go through on them are forced to do so when a mob boss gets hands on their plans and uses them to blackmail them.
Fanboys: A group of friends break into Skywalker Ranch to steal a print of The Phantom Menace to watch it ahead of it's release.
Graduation Day: A group of friends plan to rob a bank owned by one of their fathers to pay for medical treatments for another friends mother, and plan to do it all during their graduation and get back in time to attend the ceremony.
The Perfect Score: A group of students plan to steal the answer sheet to the SATs.

I hated Mission Impossible. Not because the heist wasn't good. But because of the ridiculous scene of the helicopter in the English Channel tunnel. The aerodynamics inside the tunnel would have crashed the chopper in under a second.

I don't know where this goes in your list but The Three Fugitives. It doesn't have to be perfect heist just likable characters. Nick Nolte and Martin Short are great together.

Who creates these lists? A bunch of pretentious film students? I don't think any of you actually know what a Heist movie is. So many of these are thrillers or comedies. And so many mentioned that should have been included. Do some research and do better.

To not spoil spoil I'll keep this vague. Not surprised they picked a film by that particular director as the top spot. I've seen almost all his films and most are heist films, though my favorite though is one his non heist films.

Favorite heist movie: Oceans Thirteen (2007).

How can you not mention The Brinks Job from 1978? Peter Falk, Alan Garfield, and Peter Boyle filmed in Boston where the real heist took place. Funny, and tense when they actually did the job?

Not obscure, but my favorite heist films are the original 'Italian Job' and 'Topkapi'.

Michael Mann's 'Thief' would be on my list.

All 3 of these are epic and missing from this list, Heat is the best Robbery/Heist movie imo.

I feel that the original Italian Job needed more than a blink-and-you-miss-it photo appearance. Brilliant!

Also, I know it's a silly, silly movie, but there's a pretty good heist featuring many of the factors you mention (no choice, retired thief, one last job, etc.): Hudson Hawk.

With my list you'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll reminisce and you'll sheit in your pants.

Recalling the Mission Impossible TV series. And how good it was. It was in danger of being cancelled til viewers petitioned.

.. you forgot "The Heist" (Gene Hackman, Dany De Vito, Sam Rockwell).. in the end, he gets away with all the gold. How? "I just thought about a guy who was smarter than me and asked myself, what would he do? Then just did that." Classic.

They’re in Spanish but if you found a copy in your language and you enjoy heist movies I think you’ll find them entertaining.

I honestly think Lucky Number Slevin is my favorite heist movie of the last 20 years...now, it's not a traditional target, technically a pair of assassinations, but besides that it has all the trademarks

Heat barely gets a mention. That is just ridiculous. An absolute legendary heist movie that has inspired many others. Shame on you.
