what are the interior dimensions of the raised beds??
ОтветитьI love that bed! What are the support posts made from? How are they installed? It's beautiful, and as I have my blackberries in the front yard I'm sure my neighbors would appreciate this sort of look over what I'm doing 🤣

ОтветитьHow wonderful to have parents who own a garden center!
ОтветитьKatydid egg
ОтветитьAwesome video, thank you!
ОтветитьPLEASE do a video of blackberries, specifically Navajo and baby cakes if you can. Thank you for sharing all of your knowledge!
ОтветитьBags of soil?
Ответитьare you sure those are Prime Ark 45? I don't see any thorns on those red canes
Ответить"Thorn filled cane can be pretty wicked."
UNDERSTATEMENT OF THE CENTURY!
The thorns are like shark teeth. They are angled inward to allow you access to the berries and bite you as you remove your hand. Your first reaction is to pull your hand out resulting in major pain.
I have wild blackberries all over my newly acquired homestead. They are pure evil. Eradicating them has been a total nightmare. They grow back very vigorously.
They are very tasty.
what do you stain or paint your beds with?
ОтветитьLove your berry boxes. I am going to have one made like this. What material did you use - redwood or somthing else?
ОтветитьPrimocane varieties are the way to go, though they may not be viable in your cold climate as the canes are affected by the cold. But you can fruit them on the new growth that emerges each year. Prime Ark Freedom is a more modern version of the one you were growing a year ago, but I would recommend Reuben, another primocane, which is very vigorous and has fruit which is far sweeter, while the Prime Ark ones seem to remain very sharp even when the berries look black and ripe. (Same problem with Triple Crown I think you will find.) Black satin is sweeter though and an older variety.
Pruning is important with the primocane ones, and it is normal to 'tip' the Prime Ark ones which encourages same season branching and fruit borne on the laterals too. Good luck and I hope you post a video about the results.
Def look like katydid eggs. Kind of like a grasshopper.
ОтветитьNo issues with wildlife invading your crops? I’m planting grapes and blackberries for the first time this year and I fear, with the amount of deer we have here, they’ll get eaten.
ОтветитьLaura, I know this is an old video, but I just love your parents! They seem just wonderful. God bless.
ОтветитьYour skill level driving the fork lift looks A-1!! Love your videos and how fun to watch your mom and dad using the diopter to look at the scientific project...
ОтветитьIm a little confused. I thought the blackberries were supposed to be planted 10 feet apart?
ОтветитьThere are at lease 3 primocane blackberries that I know of. Primark 45. Primark traveler. And primark freedom. There may be more
ОтветитьPlease try Ark Freedom that are fresh! Thornless, primocane and floricane fruiting, big and juicy berries. Great, instructional video. God bless you!
ОтветитьFor having parents who own a store - those tools are way out of date
ОтветитьZero weeds anywhere...please tell me your secret!
ОтветитьHave you tried Polka Raspberries? Far superior to Heritage in flavor and crop bounty. They are primocane fruiting like Heritage. In spring of 2020 I planted a row of Polka and a row of Heritage. There was no comparison. Polka’s deep, rich, sweet raspberry flavor must be tasted to be believed. Last year I ripped out the heritage and just a few weeks ago planted a second row of Polka. If I had never tasted Polka I would not have know what I was missing. Like you I left half of the row with thinned canes, the rest of the row I sheared off.
ОтветитьLaura I would just love a video on how you do your hair and what you use. I know that's random and has nothing to do with gardening lol but it's always looks so healthy and pretty!
ОтветитьHave you thought about growing marions? their season is super short but SO worth the wait!
ОтветитьWhere does the water originate? I’d love to run drip tubing to some of my beds but not sure if it’s the kind of thing that gets connected to your outside water faucet attached to your home or if it originates from elsewhere on the property.
ОтветитьIf those are Prime-Ark 45, they are quite thorny. Prime-Ark Freedom and Prime-Ark Traveler are thornless.
ОтветитьI ADORE YOUR GARDEN AREA'S THEY ARE EVERY BIT SOMETHING I'VE DREAMED OF HAVING, BUT STILL WORKING TO SEE COME TO PASS AS YET??? NOT AT YOUR LEVEL OF GROWTH IN THE GROWN AS YOU ARE YET! JUST APPRECIATING ALL YOUR HARD WORK AND THANKING YOU FOR SHARING YOUR BEAUTY WITH US!!!
ОтветитьI have been watching alot of Blackberry growing videos, and have finally understood how much of puny ass scrubs the garden Blackberrys are. Uh we need slihhtly acidic highly organic soil and please don't hurt me with to much water. GOD DAMMIT the wild Blackberrys here are eldritch immortal gods of chaos, they grow 10m2 in pure concrete at -10°C every year each. AND THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF THEM slowly consuming our village, they are coming for our children. They CANNOT be killed, shears, chainsaws, poison, fire, thermonuclear warheads, NOTHING WORKS. They have 1 inch long thorns. They have surrounded us, there is no escape. Please remember us.
PS: The fruits are nice though.
I see you pointed out the 'initial plant' spot (the little pot) that the new Blackberries were started into, have you ever had issues with these not breaking down and strangling your plants?
ОтветитьYou can tell it's not Laura's first rodeo the way she lined up the bags and cut the bottoms. Well done.
ОтветитьIt seems like you could save a lot of effort and reduce plastic waste by having garden bed soil delivered in bulk. All those plastic bags that are unrecyclable will have to sit in a landfill and leech plastic byproducts for decades.
Ответить3 plants in a 3x10' area. Apply in beds in this order: Epsoma Soil acidifier layer on soil - 1.5 cu ft (30 bags for 30x3' bed) Epsoma organic raised bed mix (can use bulk compost) - Berry Tone small amount sprinkled on top of soil on each spot where you'll plant each plant.
Ответить'BEAUTIFUL-SO excited too!!
ОтветитьI have a high pH, about 8.2, and I can grow most of the stuff that I want. No rhododendrons or blueberries, for sure, but raspberries and blackberries are fine if you put enough organic matter in. In my case, a lot of wood chips. Humus has a pH of 6.5, so if you build up your humus layer, you lower your pH. That's why you should put wood chips on absolutely everything in your garden if you can. Regarding plants that like high pH, there is a great book in french about those plants, and you can find a LOT of stuff. In my case, it's alkaline clay, so it's not as easy as the usual alkaline soils, which are poor and rocky. In my case, it's hard, waterlogged, full of quack grass. But some plants do great. Regarding veggies, cabbages and artichokes love an alkaline soil. For cabbages, it's because they can get phosphorous easily with their tap root, whereas alkaline soils have a phosphorous "blockage" usually due to the high pH. Sunflowers have the same ability. I grow all types of perennials : echinops, eryngium, grasses, centaureas, poppies, snapdragons, etc... For shrubs and trees, elder trees do great, forsythias, oaks, hazelnut trees, willows... Mostly the things I can't grow are from countries where there aren't alkaline soils, and mostly that is Japan and Australia. Some eucalypts do fine, but forget about wattles, callistemons, grevilleas, banksias, leptosmermums (tea trees) etc... And Japanese maples are a big no. It's sad for me coz I lived in Australia for a few years and fell in love with the flora, but those plants wouldn't be at home there, the Parisian climate doesn't suit them.
ОтветитьLil one so cute♡
ОтветитьI have been looking forward to this since last year. Thank you. I love blackberries.
ОтветитьYummy berries!
ОтветитьYour 3rd year will be the best year. The first year you’ll get some fruit but the fruit will only grow on what is existing right now. So be patient and enjoy!! 🥰
ОтветитьU inspired me so much..I went and bought 2more(found a dark raspberry) raspberry, and 2 more black berries ,thanks as always
ОтветитьLooks like katydid eggs. No need to burn the garden.... LOL!
ОтветитьLovin your raised beds for the berries. You guys put a lot of thought into your beds and I know you’ll have a bumper crop of blackberries next year. We planted 3 little thornless blackberry plants on our very small subdivision lot 2 years ago and this past year our vines were loaded with very large sweet berries and they just kept on producing berries all summer. The plants were nothing special, got them from WalMart. Only wish I had enough room for more.
ОтветитьGreat information 👍 👌
ОтветитьHi! How did you build the raised bed for the raspberries? What did you use?
ОтветитьNespresso has changed my life as well!😊
ОтветитьHi, Laura!🥰💕
ОтветитьI agree that Nespresso is the bomb 💣 I have a machine that makes k cups and nespresso… I only did the k cups for a year until I found some Aldi brand espresso cups in my local store…. They are SO much better!
Ответить🙋🏽♀️🫐🍓🌺🌼🌷🌸🪴🌻💚❤️💛💜
ОтветитьLOL💥🔥☄👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
