This kind of falls under the umbrella of productivity but I would like to see a video that covers having ADHD as a single-parent.
I’m a father of an 8 year old daughter who I have 4 full days a week including the weekend. I was diagnosed in my late 20’s with ADHD. I went through a divorce a couple of years ago and ever since I have struggled on different levels to keep up. I consistently feel like as I catch up with one task/chore another one falls behind leading to feeling defeated. From there it usually leads to feeling like I’m failing as a parent/adult.
We are so blessed to have this channel. The amount of care you put into bringing professionals, and how much info you put into your video descriptions. We are so lucky thank you so much 😭😭
ОтветитьWould like to know how to handle the times when I want to get out of doing something at work that is required. I like to have some order but as I get older it seems to become less unless hyperactivity kicks in. Like the advice here. Need to research more to understand more.
ОтветитьI have ADHD but was diagnosed with bipolar last January. It's a dual cool morbidity and really UPS the ante with the ADHD
ОтветитьI try to commit to a certain amount of work a day, and then use my watch to time my progress. For instance, today I’m working four hours and I may end up working in 15, 30, or one hour increments. sometimes it’s just for five minutes but it seems to get me towards my goal at the end of the day. When I’m hyper focused and working on my website, it may be 10 hours a day.
ОтветитьI understand putting the commercial in the middle, but I got distracted & lost track & restarted it and I still haven't finished this video. But I'll leave the tab open & next time I'll take notes. I'll go exercise so I can get stuff done (?)
ОтветитьJessica, I'd love to see a video about alcohol and ADHD.
If you've done this, I sorry.😕
If you've done this, can you make new one? 😁
This has been a recent struggle for me because I've tried to self medicate using it.
If I have one beer during my work day, I am able to handle the monotony. But it quickly turns into more than one. And then turns into a problem.
There is so many books about ADHD out there. I'm always looking to learn more. How do you pick?
ОтветитьWhy the Goats?
Were you born in a Goat year or just fond of Goats?

ОтветитьEver tried to nap and boost your energy at the same time? Sounds like a paradox, but it works—enter the caffeine power nap.
Jessica, this video with Ari was fantastic—so full of warm encouragement and grounded insight. One little parenting trick that saved me: when your baby naps, drink a coffee and set a 25-minute timer. By the time you wake, the caffeine’s kicking in and you’re ready to move (nap + Pomodoro = stealth superpower). If you're skipping caffeine right now, rhodiola or nettle tea might be gentle alternatives.
Also—now that Ari’s book is out, any chance you’ll do a review? I’d love to hear your take.
I would love for you to do a react video to Dr Bergs video "ADHD Is NOT Genetic: It's Purely NUTRITIONAL". Even better if you could do any interview with him. This would be amazing to see two people I respect engaged in this topic.
ОтветитьHoping for audio version somewhere
Ответить"This is good. This is meaningful. This is important to me. I want the energy to do this. " I love that approach.
ОтветитьI would have liked to have heard short step by step ideas here. Too many words to wade through to find the specific steps. Also some practical steps for retired men and women
ОтветитьYour voicemail gives me instant adhd
ОтветитьI'd love to hear more about the combo of procrastination and perception of time. I know you've covered similar topics in other videos, but this one of those things I just can't seem to get a handle on. I'm both terrible at estimating how long something will take AND on the rare occasion I give myself a reasonable amount of time to do something, the task will still expand to take longer than I have because I struggle to get started.
It's like if I have 7 days to write a paper, I'll get it done in 10 days (6 days to get myself to start writing plus 4 days to write it), but if I try to factor in procrastination time and ask for 10 days to write it, it'll take me 13 days. I'd love to "under-promise and over-deliver" but find it literally impossible.
Funny!😂
After I birthed my son in 2020, I wrote a list when & on wich side my baby nursed & when he pooped.
My nurse told me:
"You don't need to write it down, just look at the clock!
Nurse at least every 3 hours."
...
Yeah,.. right!
As if I could remember the time, when I last looked at the clock...
I baby was drinking nearly every hour of the day xD
I put a hair tie on the arm I last nursed & changed it to the other while I nursed :)
I started a timer from then on, for EVERYTHING!
awake, asleep, how long I slept etc.
I do it even today:
"How long did the shower take?"
"How long do a need to clean the bathroom?"
"Being outside"
Kids, work, home, everything is being tracked 😊
P.S.:
It helps me alot:
Of I don't have the motivation to for example shower.
I alredy know, it takes me only 20 minutes...
That way I can manipulate myself into going into the shower. I prepare the towels & pyjama etc. The day before, so I don't need to put in extra work today!
Preparation is key!
Not sure if you’ve made a video on this before, but I’m struggling with the feeling of my ADHD traits getting “worse” after my recent ADHD diagnosis (vs pre-diagnosis). Some said that this is because we no longer rely on the panic-fueled adrenaline that used to force us to act and now the brain doesn’t know how to start.
Then there’s that fine line between acknowledging our limits (ah, finally i have a name for my struggles) and becoming defined by them (ah, i’m like this bcs of ADHD) — and the surrender that comes with it. I feel like i’ve stopped trying or working hard and i don’t think that’s right but i also feel like my brain is stuck on this mindset at the moment.
I found with alarms that I need to use them only for essential things which are time-bound. If I set too many, I will absolutely start to ignore them. It was difficult at first but I set fewer alarms AND made a pact with myself that if I set an alarm I mean business. He’s 100% right about snooze not turn off too. This mainly works for me around the house because I have technology (a smart watch) which allows the alarm to be literally strapped to me so I don’t lose it. For cooking I use a different loud alarm in the kitchen and I know that one means to drop what I am doing and run to the kitchen. And yeah, running makes it more fun. Also socks on hardwood and sliding in to the destination at the end. 😂
ОтветитьJess! Thanks for taking on trainwell as a sponsor all those years ago when they were still copilot. I learned that I have a work benefit where they will pay a portion of fitness expenses. Money that I would not get if I didn't spend it on fitness things.
I have been working with Alexis for nearly two years now. Definitely just want I needed to tackle the overwhelm of working out.
There are so many friction points in working out and trainwell takes care of all of them.
Seriously. Wonderful. I saw it on another channel, who I also respect, but seeing that you kept coming back to it gave me the boost to do something good for myself that was important but not urgent.
With school assignments, Eleanor tells me that it is not because she remembers doing them, but because she can't remember not doing them, that leads to incomplete grades.
ОтветитьI'm surprised this isn't a top comment given your audience... But the intro sections sound is slightly out if sync.
Ответитьeverytime when I watch U'r video: "why I forgot off 2x speed when I open english video? ow... stop. it's not 2x speed. it's Jessica". :)
ОтветитьA part of this I've found simultaneously simple and incredibly difficult is learning to trust myself. When I feel tired while I'm doing something, I trust my judgement of being tired and allow myself to sleep (if time allows). Or if I feel overwhelmed, I allow myself to disengage and insist on not feeling guilty about it. Just overall trusting that when I feel a discomfort, I trust that I deserve the relief
ОтветитьI set an alarm if I start the teapot or heating soup, then I put it just outside my office so I have to get up to turn it off.
Ответитьwork: remote work vs physical work environments, which are better for adhd brains????
ОтветитьI instinctively sent this to my 'watch later' list...i need to watch this.
ОтветитьSo many ads these days that the vids are unwatchable.
ОтветитьI'm seriously tearing up! 😭 This video gave me so much hope and understanding. I finally feel like I can help my child thrive. And for anyone else feeling this way, PLEASE read "6 Ways to Overcome ADHD Challenges as a Family" by Marina Parsi. It's a game changer!
ОтветитьAny Plans for an audio book?
ОтветитьThis was very helpful...I did purchase Ari's book on Amazon and im on Chap 3 already. There's so much to learn and understand about ADHD that I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed because it's fairly new to me. I continually have to remind myself to breathe and tell myself it's going to be okay. Eventually. Thank you for this video.
ОтветитьI always mean to leave this comment on your videos but you sound like Larry from Veggie tales and I mean that in the best way!
ОтветитьGot my adhd diagnosis 2 days ago, im overwhelmed and relieved at the same time. Next step for me is learn as much as I can
ОтветитьThank you 😊
ОтветитьHi, I am so grateful to find this video, thank you so much
ОтветитьSomething stops me from doing things. Everything. Instead I head right to the couch and then I seriously won't get up until it's time to go to bed. On the weekends I go right from the bed to the couch and stay there. Is this part of my ADHD and depression or is this something else. My ADHD is getting a little worse.
ОтветитьAlarms work for me for things like leaving for the bus on time. Not for starting things,
Kathy B
Wow, 5 gold foil stars for including the written version of those dry-sounding but important questions! It allowed me to comprehend them much better.
ОтветитьVideo and audio out of sync
ОтветитьFor an adhd expert, he's gotta learn his audience and give highlights. I got distracted part way through.
ОтветитьWe want to be honest with ourselves about reminders, but many cases it is easy to dismiss. Especially that we don't perceive time well (time near-sighted). We have to repeat it to become a habit and instinct. To trust ourself that reminders are useful.
ОтветитьUnorthodox tip - I've started taking creatine as a pre-workout lately, and it's had a really pleasant side-effect of lifting a lot of my brain fog and shooting my executive function through the roof :)
ОтветитьI’d like to say thank you. You helped me realize I have adhd in my late twenties. Thanks to you I was able to find the help I didn’t know I needed and finish school
ОтветитьMy favourite thing like the “set an alarm” is “ you just need a calendar”😒 my response is but where is the calendar to remind me to check the calendar 🤦♀️
