I love raw vegetables and i love meat so i definitely notice the taste of vegan meat. it tastes nothing like vegetables, and only meat in texture. I dont taste animal fat, because theres none in there, and that makes it taste hollow and empty. Also, my body knows its been tricked, since as an omnivorous animal, i require animal enzymes - i will sometimes not be able to keep it down because my body says "well, thats not what i thought it was" and then starts flushing. Still, i will eat anything you put in front of me, which is why i have eaten vegan food

I don't understand why people insist on doing horrible things to vegetables to sub for meat. Those chick peas could have gone through the food processor with onion and parsley and been delicious falafel. There is vegan food that's good. It's just not pretending to be something it's not.

Beyond burgers are where it shines. I like to load it up w toppings even eggs are considered vegetarian, I've put real bacon on one before. On a burger the meat is rarely the center of the show it's a platform for other stuff. So I go all out with fancy burger construction and toppings. It doesn't feel nearly as heavy as meat as you eat it so I could eat 2 beyond burgers in the time for eating 1 normal burger.

Make it into a Salisbury steak or meatloaf

Sometimes i think about the whole beyond meat thing, and I don't know why, but somethint about growing meat in vats is something I find deeply unsettling for some reason.

It makes me think of Soylent Green, and also the idea of your food being grown in a lab is just off-putting

Chickpeas are not actually peas. When it says "peas" in a list of ingredients, then it's almost certainly green peas. Even black-eyed peas aren't peas, they're a type of bean.

If you can eat meat, it makes no sense to eat pretend meat. That's for vegans who regret telling everyone they were becoming vegan.

I love beyond burgers I haven't tried the steak their sausage wasn't good. It's normally sold at dollar tree near me so I get 2 burgers for 1.25 which isn't terrible

Beyond meat would be a lot better if the third ingredient wasn't canola oil.

Meat eaters often forget that most vegans grew up eating meat & dairy. Meat & dairy alternatives are a great thing for people to fulfill some cravings that pop up, in a less harmful way. Vegan steak is a relatively new concept, and still has a long way to come... Unlike some other vegan alternatives which are borderline unrecognizably different. Giving meat eaters vegan steak, next to steak, and expecting them to like it is absolutely absurd. That does not make it "stupid" "bad" or whatever else you may call it.

It's there to serve a purpose, and it does that well.

Tbh Beyond Burgers taste great. Like, they don't taste like fresh meat and would NEVER work as a steak. But in burger form where you're ok with the taste of definitely processed food? It tastes great

You should have introduced him first to the concept of “chopped steak” which is ground beef as a steak. Then some time later you bring him this alternative “chopped steak.” This is clearly something that is minced so you’re not going to trick him into thinking this is a whole-muscle steak. Better to at least acknowledge this is some sort of a mince.

The best vegan burgers are the ones who don't try to imitate real steak but that instead do their own thing.
Beetroot, Portobello mushroom, black bean, those 3 burgers are incredible

Where is the recipe?

The actual ground beef steak should NOT be pink inside. The potentially disease causing stuff is usually on the outside of a steak, so even if you cook it to rare, it's alright because any contaminants on the surface are killed. When you mince beef, the surface stuff is distributed throughout the meat. So you really should be cooking till well done everywhere.
