Honey Bee Washboarding Behavior up close Honeybees groom, lick and scrape hive entrance surfaces

If you want to see interesting honeybee behavior and know more about what's going on with each colony, check in on them at sunrise.

You'll see what they have discarded during the night before they have a chance to clean it all away, and you just may see them practicing surface cleaning with their tongues and mandibles.

These bees are all lined up (above and below) as they slowly advance while sopping up morning dew and washing down every reachable surface.

Deck washing, wash-boarding, whatever it's called, is when the workers lick every surface they come across.
