12.28.19 | by Christopher Cyphers | WATER MILL, Long Island - A sprawling Hamptons estate owned by member Ms. Anne Hearst (of the Hearst publishing dynasty) and renowned novelist, Jay Mcinerney, was ravaged by a fire that began at 8:30 AM. The blaze tore through nearly half of the 17,00 square foot mansion, located at 156 Little Noyak Path, in the village of Water Mill, in the Town of Southampton. According to Southampton tax records, the estate is valued at $9 million. The Bridgehampton Fire Department was first on scene, but the fire quickly grew, requiring mutual aid companies from across the south shore of eastern Suffolk County. Because there are no fire hydrants servicing this part of Water Mill, firefighters relied on water trucked in by fire department tankers, which converged on the area from the towns of Flanders, Hampton Bays, Southampton, Bridghehampton, East Hampton, Amagansett, North Sea, and Sag Harbor.

This is the second Hamptons estate in the village of Water Mill to be heavily damaged by fire in as many weeks.
