I love you Uncle Ben! Your rice and vids are the best. Steady pimpin' hoes! 👨🌾
Ответить2 minutes into practice and my fingertips are mince meat.
ОтветитьThis video cured my alcoholism.
ОтветитьBen Eller was recently on Guitar Teacher Rick Beato show. I constantly rvisit this technuqe video becawse I am a big fan f Abam Jones, from Aystin Texas, where I am also/
ОтветитьTool are such underrated musicians. I've only just started listening to them.
ОтветитьTrying to play any Tool riff I haven't yet figured out on my bass or guitar is like trying to solve a puzzle. The feeling you get when you finally get the riff down and can play it consistently is absolutely amazing.
ОтветитьI know I’m late to the party, but this lesson was so captivating for me. I do like this song, I enjoy trying Tool on the drums and guitar, and this to me felt the most thorough breakdown of a riff. Nicely done Ben!
Ответить9/8 has a similar feel to 3/4. I think of it as 1-ee-and-2-ee-and-3-ee-and-1-…
ОтветитьThumbs up for the money shot up front then explaining how to do it.
ОтветитьNow yer talkin
ОтветитьBest band EVER.
ОтветитьMy issue with learning these techniques is it ruins the magic of what the musicians are doing. i just thought they were literal gods, but its just a simple technique that creates an amazing unique sound, easier. Pretty effing cool, thanks for the vid!
ОтветитьIs it important to have a fairly low action to pull this off? I keep trying to nail this technique down but I haven't been able to pull it off yet.
ОтветитьThe first three notes played and you can hear: Tool
ОтветитьWho is this gorgeous person that I just found? Oh my god, he talking it's like music to my ears
ОтветитьThat’s funny. I’m not a good guitarist by any stretch and I’m sure this is completely different, but I kept thinking I know I play a song that I do something similar. Literally had to pick up my guitar to figure out what song I was thinking of. Finally figured it out. Like I said probably nothing similar my “technique” probably pretty rudimentary but I figured out I was doing it on STP Wicked Garden. In the chorus there is a b then open a string. I would always do a semi pull off but grab the A with my finger and pluck it before hitting it with the pick. I don’t know why I always did that. Just seemed like it added a dampened note before the hard note and I always thought it sounded cool.
Ответитьwhy do you just rustle with a pick and not normally punch the string? dude, upgrade your technique, and then show me how to play
ОтветитьDaaaang… the caption said “John dee”..
ОтветитьMan NOBODY can cover tool songs 100% even though they aren't complicated could you do vicarious please??
ОтветитьWhat Paul are you using?
ОтветитьAre you a painter also? @BenEller
Ответить@BenEller great video
ОтветитьWorth mentioning that this technique is used in "Invincible" (from the "new Tool album" you reference waiting for in the beginning of this video... i.e., your video was useful for not just looking back on past Tool songs but also for a future Tool song!)
ОтветитьJust when I was on a Tool kick, Uncle Ben comes through.
ОтветитьEulogy from aenima does this as well.
ОтветитьBro my finger
ОтветитьSimply Awesome !
Ответитьthanks for unlocking this technique! now I can play Jambi, what a guitar mantra that song is
ОтветитьDude that tone, how did you do it?
ОтветитьI think he uses this on Eulogy also. I thought he did a muted hammer-on from 2 to 3 on the low e string, but I think it's in fact a muted "pull-thru" on the second fret e and a strings (during the "he had a lot to say" part). Jones has seemingly used this technique far longer than anyone knew. It's probably present elsewhere too, Vicarious for one, but surely there are more instances.
ОтветитьThe sustain and weight of a Les Paul is required
ОтветитьYou won't get the same sound with a lighter body guitar
ОтветитьVery odd, thanks for the video! On a side note - you resemble Damien Echols, especially when he was younger.
ОтветитьSo cool!
Ответить9/8 should be felt as groups of 2 and 3. Of course it's hard to count along when you're ignoring the accented beats. This song, along with most songs in 9/8, should never be counted the way you demonstrated. Usually, it'll be 3+3+3, 2+2+2+3 (like in the verse), or 3+2+2+2 (like the intro).
ОтветитьDang. Two hours of practicing this and I've got some impressive blisters to show for it.
ОтветитьWhen I palm mute my guitar doesn’t make that tone it sounds like nothing WHYYYYYY PLEASE IVE RUBBED MY FINGERS RAW someone have compassion 😭😭
ОтветитьIt's not Adam's technique, literaly every death metal band end of 80s -90s player like this
You're too green kid, learn your history first
Awesome! I now have a massive blister on the tip of my index finger. 10/10
Ответитьi just started messing around with tool its tough it dont sound to bad till you try it ! when we see a guitar player who stands as still as Adam and has his eyes on what he is doing its a good signal they got there shit wired tight !
ОтветитьI don't know anything about playing the guitar, but your teaching is excellent here. Now I can play better than Adam Jones himself!!!
ОтветитьIncredibly insightful and basically a gamechanger (but also a headfuck) since I never knew or payed attention the down beat or 9/8 time.
ОтветитьHow do I get that tone, I’ve been trying this song for 2 years and I can’t get the intro to sound clean
ОтветитьStuff TOOL does video?
ОтветитьJones has such a unique style. One of my favourite guitarist!
ОтветитьCool! Sounds great
ОтветитьThank you all for watching this lesson on how Adam Jones really plays Jambi by Tool! What do you want to see next on Weekend Wankshop?
