It was a big half-empty maze
old slot machines of shops and booths
a woman in a headscarf sat beneath a sign
with a human palm on it she was drinking tea from a thermos flask

she would pick up her comb
pretending to comb out her very
long wet blonde wig
mutter something about sandy shores

There was a mermaid
In the middle of a small artificial lake
If I close my eyes I can still hear the mermaid singing

It was a small menagerie
of huge wicked-looking parrots
angry reds and vivid blue
squawked in incomprehensible voices

It was a mirror maze,
walking up the narrow path
Past the hall of mirrors
Past the entrance of ghost train
Past the ice cream concession
Pass Mrs Jarley's parlor

There was a mermaid
In the middle of a small artificial lake
If I close my eyes I can still hear the mermaid singing

no water but bottles of water
in different plastic color
shades of the sea
there are no dreams...
