Hello there. Sorry to bother you, but do you have any input on making a lead collimating attachment for a scintillation detector? I have several bicron nai(tl) detectors, and I’m trying to detect radioactive sources in an industrial scrap yard.

But I’m getting so many different sources that it’s hard to narrow them down. I have several Ludlum meters and I am very comfortable using them… But I would like to design and make a lead collimator lens to help narrow down what part of the scrap yard the source is coming from… Then I can switch over to another meter with my pancake probe to narrow it down.

What is the benefit of the BGO crystal in comparison with the commonly available Scintillator materials like NaJ(Tl) or CsJ(Tl) scintillation plastics etc?

Seems it’s hard to find the BGO crystal. Where did you find it? Would like to build one of these. Seems very sensitive.
