There is a somewhat prominent argument that attempting to plant trees in the desert can be counterproductive and waste groundwater and amount to essentially humanity's attempt to control nature. But it should be noted that the efforts in this video were done in a region of China that had desertified only because of human activity and overgrazing. Thus, it is not the case that this person is doing something futile; rather, she is restoring the land's natural harmony.

So proud of my descendants in China for this superhuman effort. She should be bestowed the Nobel prize for her selfless achievements.

this is Chinese propaganda, the attempts to plant trees in the desert have dried up the land even more. Chinese are painting hill sides green to mimic vegetation. the government is currently uprooting all the trees they planted.
