Svetogorsk was originally named Enso. Everything west from Vyborg was Finnish. Enso was a paper mill, which is actually where the town got its name, now the company is called Stora Enso and is one of the biggest producers of paper and wood products, was the biggest in Europe at one point.
ОтветитьLol Roman, I was able to find the burgers estate in less than a minute through google earth. Not bad for being an American. lol 😅
ОтветитьI remember being taken by my Finnish friend to the Finnish border with Svetogorsk in the 1980s. We drove through beautiful Finnish countryside with its lakes and blue sky and the border post was high up on a ridge. As we got to the top of the ridge the scenery and the sky changed dramatically. There were huge industrial factories pumping out grey smoke and the sky blackened. It was like coming across Dante's Inferno but on Earth. I subsequently went to St Petersburg which was beautiful, but I will never forget that moment of glimpsing the horror of Soviet Industrial pollution.
ОтветитьGo stock car baby Make money
ОтветитьThe only way your going to get into Finland is if you know how to drive a tank with a supply of south Korean candy. Only way. Black licorice may save you.
ОтветитьIf I remember right Vyborg was 'entirely' (if you don't consider all the back and forth, and also considering it was inhabited by finns until then) ceded to Russia/Soviet union during the world war 2.
It's not really that long ago in a historic perspective. I still consider Vyborg to be a finnish town really, then I mean in terms of the architecture, history, and all this. Seeing Vyborg is like seeing another city in Finland/Scandinavia. It does not feel like Russia. It's a beautiful place. I hope it's history and cultural heritage will be kept alive and nurtured. And not have it's soul corrupted by Putin and his Z-zombies. Love from Norway!
Vyborg, Ladoga, and all of Karelia belong to Finland
ОтветитьSad to see our historical city in such a bad shape. You can't see it in this video but Russia has ruined the city. Gas pipes are also destroyed, so you could give the city back to Finland :D
ОтветитьAYYY LAPPEENRANTA! My dads family is from there and I’ve visited there twice! Hopefully Russia doesn’t decide it wants Lappeenranta like Viipuri lol (half joking but the Ukraine Russia thing has Finns a little on edge). I’m Finnish Canadian since my family immigrated to canada. Also watching you in Viipuri gave me a really strange feeling especially since my Mummi’s parents fled that area after it became Russia and that’s actually why we’re from Lappeenranta - for the grandparents of that age I think bitter feelings remained.
ОтветитьYour car shows are adorable. You should see classic cars and low riders in Los Angeles. The car clubs are dope.
ОтветитьDo more car videos.
ОтветитьIt's always fun when Roman does car stuff
ОтветитьI want to see when you and Bald go to Finland!
Ответитьwould be absolutely hilarious to do this in polish cars (FSO,FSC.FSM)
ОтветитьThe V-shaped building you passed behind the statues while walking over the harbor has an interesting story. Before the war, it was an art conservatory and a museum. During the cold war, it was used as a warehouse. Then sometimes in the early 2000, a group of architects bought it and returned it to its former purpose, except that the museum and the art conservatory ended up in the "wrong" wings i.e. museum where the conservatory used to be and conservatory where the museum used to be. The Hermitage operates the museum and ended up putting part of their collection of Swedish and Finnish art there.
ОтветитьAre you the dude that has a bmx channel way back...??
ОтветитьVyborg, the birthplace of my mother. Sadly her family had to leave the town, because of the war . Would like to see more of Vyborg.
ОтветитьLESS GOOOOO SUOMI!! 🇫🇮
ОтветитьSo many low and loud kyusha! The Nissan R30 Skyline was my favourate though the two tone X70 Cresta was by far the cleanest and coolest. Honorable mention to the white X70 with the SSR MK1s and a mad kit and boot lip.
ОтветитьGood to see Viipuri is slowly bouncing back to life after the Soviet destruction. Too bad it's on the wrong side of the border ;)
ОтветитьI was in vyborg in 1987
Ответитьthat part of the country was part of finland most likly.. thats why is so "european". i could be wrong..
Ответить“Nervous laughter” makes joke “nervous laughter” although still love the content!
ОтветитьI'm confused. As someone that lived in multiple parts of the USA it seems weird for Roman to be denied entry to a town due to his passport. In the states you can pretty much go to any town even if it's close to the border, just not go out of the country without a passport.
ОтветитьRussia: annexes a European country, steals their land including cities.
Roman: OMG this looks so European :o
pls make more car content NFKRZ
ОтветитьBro you guys need to come to America if you want to really see some sick ass cars!
ОтветитьI've never thought to check out what Viipuri looks like before this. Not bad pronunciacion of Lappeenranta.
Ответитьsomeone needs to send this to noriyaro 🤣🤣🤣
ОтветитьVyborg is such a great mixture between Russian, Swedish and Finnish atmospheres and aesthetics. I'd love to travel there.
ОтветитьThe heartbraking thing is that the beautiful city of Vyborg (Viipuri) should be part of Finland
ОтветитьI didn’t know Russia had a JDM community, i thought it were more innto the Benz scene
ОтветитьDude, Vyborg really does feel Swedish.
ОтветитьViipuri was part of Finland after our independents in 1917 but we had to give it up as a peace term to the Soviet Union after they attacked us in 1939
Ответитьmy mother’s godmother was originally from Viipuri/Vyborg, but her and her family had to evacuate from there when it came under Russian control. She always talks about how beautiful the city was, but she never able to return there. From what you showed in your video, Viipuri really is as beautiful as she described :)
ОтветитьIt is now mid March, 2022, you should go to Finland and out of Russia now. You would be able to get paid there would you not?
ОтветитьThis is kinda crazy to watch bcz I just recently took the same kind of trip from the wet of Finland to the border of Russia, it was kinda the other side of the coin to this.
ОтветитьMan I love Russia I wanna go to the russki hoods and get stabbed and robbed by gofkins
ОтветитьSeeing Viipuri like this gives me feelings of annexation... Russian military is weak right now, right, is it not time to take it back? :^) Coming home boys
Remember, it is Finland. No matter what state occupies it.
Go to Kaliningrad. It'll also be quite European
ОтветитьActually Roman, Viipuri was never a part of Russia until after the WWII. Or well, in a sense it was because Grand Duchy of Finland was a part of Russia after the Swedish rule but Viipuri was always a Finnish town. Nice video, I hope you are well!
ОтветитьVyborg was inhabitated by Finns all the time before WW2. It doesn't matter if Vyborg was under Swedish or Russian rule because the town's civilian population was always atleast 90% Finnish.
Before the town was established in 1293, it was an old Finnish-Karelian market place and there was wooden fortress. So the place was inhabitated long time before Swedish crusaders came to Eastern Finland.
Are you a car enthusiast ?
ОтветитьWhen you drive from California to Nevada, the roads are disgusting. It's like they say who cares you're leaving.
Ответить"Borg" in Swedish = Fort
ОтветитьYou should go to Finnish town Kotka (eagle in Finnish :)
Svetogorsk, I like the Finnish name "Enso".
Suomi mainittu! Torilla tavataan!
